im going home for spring break and im going to take my pc with me (no way i would leave it in the dorms) the last few times me and my friends have brought our pc's home they some how either needed a reinstall because the hardware "had changed" or because the hdd had become corrupt. the ride even killed my friends brand new 320gb that was in an anti static bag in a box of clothes. although it could all have been coincidence, i dont want to take any chances this time, what would be the safest way to bring it home? im thinking complete disassembly?

If you have a heavy HSF I would take that off, but keep everything else as is (obviously assuming your hard drives and such are screwed in! erm, I didn't just say that... I am too lazy to screw them sometimes LOL moving on!)

Wrap the box in a thick blanket and that's it IMO

I just take off my heatsink off, (which weighs alot, and will damage alot if it breaks free) and everything else is secured down.

The other thing I suggest when moving the PC is don't put it near the car speakers. I have no idea if it would have any effect but it would be bad if it did. My old dorm roomate ruined our 27" tube TV years ago because it rode home next to a sub.
