My 6800GT standard fan was so noisy so i've removed it and it's relying on my window fan to cool it now. Unfortunately it's not doing a great job (90'c loaded) so this is what I want...but does it exist?

I want a heatsink that fits when the pci slot next to it is in use (I need all my pci slots), so it needs to fit in standard dimensions. Then I thought wouldn't it be great if heatpipes came from the cooler then turned up 90' so that a heatsink/rad would be vertical in front of my 120mm window fan. Does anyone produce such a thing? What other quiet options do I have?

cheers, J.

ok well almost all aftermarket coolers take up the adjcent slot... now the question is ... is there room above the card?

here is you BEST choice if you have room above the card

the HR-03 can be positioned so that it wraps around the card so the heatsink is on the top of the card... pluss this thing has been proven to cool better passivly a x1900xt compared to its stock cooling... so im sure on a 6800gt the hr-03 would be just fine passivly cooled with just some case airflow.

waiiitt a second. so did you take off the whole heatsink??? or just the fan?

yea, if you have room above. the hr-03 would be your best bet. if not. you'll have to remove something or go watercooling.

Yeah i've acres of space above the card:

I only removed the fan assembly, including the ram sinks as I couldn't undo the tiny screws...the heatsink's still on. Although a fan blows onto it the card doesn't have any airflow past the heatsink as it's kind of 'walled in' for want of a better description.

I think a HR-03 will be the best plan.
Thanks folks.
