I'm currently using the bios that came with my kt7a,
and also the via drivers. ( I didn't even know the via
chips had drivers) I don't want to sound dumb, but
can someone explain if I should upgrade my bios
and via drivers. What's the advantage or disadvantage
of doing this? Where are the via drivers located?

Ok here's the deal. Bios shouldn't be upgraded unless it is necassary as you do run the possibily of actually killing the mobo( I have done this a couple of times). The 4in1's: if you are affected by the 686b bug, then you should update to the 4.31's, if you start to get some bad performance with those, use the 4.32's. They will fix the data corruption problem with the 686b southbridge and SB Live soundcards. If you don't have a SB Live, use the 4.29's. You can read a whole bunch about this at WWW.VIAHARDWARE.COM. If you are running the YH or older bios on your KT7A, Abit has released a new bios that may help you as well. Make sure you know what your doing if you upgrade the bios, I have learned the hard way that if you don't you will be buying a new bios chip very soon, LOL. Anyhow, I hope this helps some. Happy OCing.

I agree Fiz, You might also have some problems with the bus mastering driver from VIA. If you do you should switch back to the default MS drivers.

Good luck

Umm...
If you're running anything short of Windows XP, you should NEVER run the default M$ drivers for your chipset. I don't know how Win98 treats them, but Win2K treats the KT133 and 133A chipsets as a MVP3 chipset - not exactly the same thing, nor optimal. I'm not sure how Win98 treats the KT133/A, but since it's an older OS than Win2K, it can't be any better. Always install the Via 4 in 1 IMMEDIATELY after a fresh OS install to avoid problems. :)
