I am running a Celeron 1.0a @ 1.333 on an abit vh6-t and have had to reduce the memory speed for stability. Which is the most important setting in terms of performance, CAS or the other memory timings? (slow/fast/turbo etc.) Has anyone tested their RAM to find out?

One other question, the L2 cache ECC setting, is it like ECC RAM which has extra bits built into the chips? i.e. If disabled will there be a performance gain? What are the trade-offs?

Cool as

Well, for performance, you'd be better off tweaking your CAS timings. I don't know exactly what the "turbo" settings do on your particular mobo, but I generally don't mess with them as I don't know what they do.

L2 ECC is mainly a resource hog more than anything else (though a very small one). Most software has ECC built into it so having it in the L2 is really not necessary. I don't think there'd be much of a difference at all if it were disabled.

Look in your manual for what those settings are, and if you have too read a second time...it usualy helps me to understand.
Abit is pretty good at explaining what the individual settings are, and what the defaults are.
Also there are chipset specific tweeks you can perform, depending on your chipset, e.g. intel, or via.(not sure but I think yours is a VIA chipset
If you make some change in the setup program that renders your comp unbootable, you can just clear the cmos...and there are directions for doing that in the man as well
Hope this helps

That's what benchmarks are for. I tweak a little and then run Sandra and 3Dmark2001. Then I tweak some more. I keep notes and eventually my trial and error pays off.

Yup, I benchmark after every tweek, but I'm not smart enough to keep notes..If I was, I might have been able to write the "Dummies Guide to Overclocking" or something
