So theres a sale at Comp USA this friday and I'm going to buy parts for a new rig for my brother. Heres what im going to get

Foxconn 761GXK8 Motherrboard, AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 1.8GHz 2000 $99.99 (179.99 before rebates)
Seagate 160GB Sata drive $19.99
(109.99 before rebates)
Sony internal dual layer dvd drive $24.99
(69.99 before rebates)
Video card PNY 7900GS $179.99
(229.99 before rebates)
PNY PC3200 1GB RAM $79.99
(159.99 before rebates)

For a grand total of $749.99 before rebates $404.95 after rebates

1. Does this sound like a pretty good deal or would I be better off just building a new rig from parts from zipzoomfly or newegg?
2. Does everything look compatable?
3. Is it a pretty up to date system?

Edit: All inside of this case with this psu http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=168107

Depends on what you mean by "up to date"

What do you do with your system and what will you be using it for?

What games and monitor resolution? Do you like to play at max setting with all the eye candy on? The one thing that might hold you back a bit is the 3000+ but most of them overclock pretty good. The board is the one thing I am totally unsure of.

If you have an extra $100-$150 around I would consider maybe picking up a decent motherboard (Asus, DFI, whatever you would like) and a better processor. A 3700+ or maybe even an opteron 165 if you would like to overclock. Look into the X2 series as well. All of that if you would like to go with S939.

I am not saying what you have picked out will suck and get horrible fps, just trying to help you improve for as little $ as possible.

As to going Intel I am totally unsure there so it might more more cost efficient or less, I dont know.

Best of luck either way.

id personaly build it off of newegg, it might cost a lil more depending on ur setup, but its complettly worth it, i build a great pc, for only like 800 bucks, dont need to upgrade for a whille.
