Just bought a cC0 celeron 600, and I'm looking for a good motherboard to stick it in. I'm thinking of the Abit be6 or be6-II, but not completely sure... Any suggestions?

I am in the same situation as u except wih a celly 667. I am debating between Be6 2[it has 200mhz fsb potential :)] or a CUSL2 which is also pretty good. I might go with CUSL2 because it has onboard vid chipset and right now I do not have a vid card.

The CUSL2 also has a version without onboard audio/video. I think it's the -C version. I'd ask Mr.B. I think he just got the Black Pearl of the same board without audio.

ah go with the be6 r2 the bx440 chipset is faster and stabler and the soft menu is more idiot proof. Asus still rocks though, i just like my bx boards!

Nope, Slake just got that board.....looks like a nice one, too.

I'm running an Asus P3C2000 right now, which is NOT Celeron friendly. Not even an option for 66 FSB, and my C600 @ 1053 won't even post higher than 1008 MHz.

For a Celeron, I'd have to go with a BX chipset based board. Two names come to mind fairly quickly, Soyo and Abit. Both have several offerings that would work well.

I'd refrain from anything with a Via Apollo Pro 133 chipset. The 133A is a bit better, but the Pro 133 is notorious for low memory bandwidth.

Intel i820 chipsets will leave you saddled with the "glorious" (sarcasm? Hell yeah!) Memory Translator Hub, or expensive RDRAM. This was intel's idea to use this chipset with RAMBUS only, and when no one bought, they came up with the MTH, so you could use SDRAM. My P3C2000 has this, and while it works, it does indeed kill the memory bandwidth, too. Just not as bad as that Via chipset (first hand knowledge, here).

I've never had the i810 or i815 chipset on a motherboard, but from what I've read, these work well.

I'd still have to go with a BX based board here, though. Look into one of the following;

Soyo 6BA+III, +IV, or +100.
Abit BE6, BE6 II, BF6.

Read back thru all of the threads here in the "intel Motherboards" topic. Lots of good ideas on a choice.

The C600 @ 1053 I have was run at that speed on a Soyo 6BA+III board. It's weak link now, is the lack of ATA66/100 capability, which they added on the +IV and +100, respectively.

Good luck with the Celeron. Happy overclocking.

bx6 rev 2

this is what i use. i tried my friends celeron 600 in it and it booted at 900 mhz no problem. plus the bx6 2 has 4 rams slots. there probably are better boards now for celly but abit makes good stuff.

Sorry I didn't see this sooner. I've been busy building this system and playing with the chip . Celeron2 600 cC0. I relly like my CUSL2-CB. The B designates it as the Black Pearl version. Besides the black color of the board the only differences between the regular CUSL2-C is that it has a gold plated heatsink instead of a greenie on the chipset, it supports a "smart card" reader (big deal) and there are unsubstantiated rumors that it outperforms the reg. version. I think it is just wishful thinking. The heatsink probably helps a little as does the fact that at least mine is board rev 1.04 and comes with Bios Version 1006.a.
The big drawback to me is that if you cold boot the system you have to re set the FSB and Vcore settings. This is a major hassle, especially when you fail to post with a new setting. When that happens I've had to go back to the chip default settings, boot into windows, restart and re-jigger the BIOS. The wire trick will fix this, and that's what I will do as soon as I establish the highest stable speed. I gotta get more cooling first. It booted into windows at 110 FSB 1.95 volts but locked up after 3 cycles of Sisoft Sandra's Burn in wizard. I'll bump it to 2.0vcore and try again after I get a 120mm fan mounted in the naked blowhole I cut into the front. I'm staying fairly cool with just a 2Coolpc blowing in sitting behind the blowhole, a slot cooler beneath the vid card and a 92mm blowing out beside the powersupply. Max temp is 42C under full load and 32 to 34 at idle. Ambient temp stays around 24C and mobo temp 26C.

the BX chipset is still the best ever made, this is a great board that can probably be found at a bargain price.
