Hehehe, my old P-4 2.66, Abit TH7-II RAID, and 512 meg of Samsung PC1066 RDRAM has returned home. I sold my old trusty combo to a co-worker who has used it since last spring. Sounds like it's been doing fine the whole time.

Apparently he gloated a lot to his wife about how much faster it was than her old computer. Well, his wife just got a P-4 2.8 gig Dell notebook and now she's bragging about how much better and faster it is than his rig. He didn't really want to overclock it (that was my first suggestion) and he's been reading about the newer Hyperthreading 800 bus P-4 CPUs and dual channel DDR, so that's what he wants now. He also wanted 1 gig of RAM and about fainted he found out how much RDRAM cost.

I had just recently bought a couple new Plextor DVD burners on sale for $140 after rebate, one is still sealed in the box. I told him about it and I visibly saw him drooling. I could see the wheels turning in his brain... his wife's new laptop don't have a DVD burner... hehehe. So, he ordered up a 3.0C and an Abit IS7-E and a gig of Kingston PC3200 Value RAM. I swapped him my new DVD burner for my old CPU/mobo/RDRAM combo plus labor to build his new computer.

Heck of a deal. I've been gathering up extra components to build my g/f a worthy computer for Christmas. Nothing seemed quite right (hehehe, I wanna be able to play my games over at her house). Looks like my old 2.66/TH7-II/RDRAM system will be her "new" computer. That thing is still a powerful beast, even for being 1-1/2 years old. I'll probably O/C it back up to 3 gig (at least when I'm on it, hehehe).

Kind of funny how it turned out to be a boomarang computer. Not the first time that's happened to me either. I sold my old trust Celeron 566 to a forum member here and eventually bought it back. Post your tales of computers coming back home to roost. Happy Holidays!

Heh, I wouldn't be surprsed if that's some "boomerang" ram your friend bought for his new rig also.

I told him to buy the HyperX PC3000... but he was dead set on getting PC3200 because the mobo supported DDR400. You can't tell non-geek people anything. The Value RAM was cheaper, so that's what he got. It's working ok at default speed and I just left it at SPD timings. He's happy... so it's cool. He likes everything to be in spec and at default. Weirdo... hehehe!

Yep Jojo, after I'm done playing with my g/f, I play with her computer too. What's wrong with that?
