broken scanner?

ok i'm really stumped. a hallmate pressed some buttons on my scanner (with active buttons off) and now my computer won't recognize it or anyone else's. i know my usb isn't broke, i've reinstalled several times, and i've even tried turning it off . in any case, i have no clue what to do with it. my scanner is a microtek 4800 which i've had for several months now. any ideas guys and gals?

hmmm...somehow after turning it off and then reinstalling the older drivers over the newer one it works. how wierd is that?
