salutation friends
currently i'm trying to build a compputer from the ground and up . but i dont know anything about computers and to make it worse i dont have a lot of money with me. well let me cut to the point . i trying to build a 2.4 mhz computer but the computer chip is so expensive i'm trying to find other alternatives. so can i use my 2.4 mhz chip in my cell phone to make the computer work ? logically it should work because both chip = 2.4 mhz. have anyone thought of this or i'm the only one.. ??

One is a broadcast frequency rate and the other is speed rating at which the core moves at, two entirely different principles. I can safely say you are probably not the only person to ever wonder this, but the technologies employed in those two particular products couldn't be any more like night and day.

Hope that answers the question a bit.

Jeez where to start.. :) I assume when you say "the chip" you mean the CPU or "Processor". Basically there no way around it you are going to have to buy a CPU designed for a PC, PC's working at 2.4Ghz and CellPhones working at 2.4Ghz are two totally different things, dotn confuse the two, I think you have your wires crossed there. Logically for the reasons I mentioned there is no way it will work, not theoretically and certinaly not physically.

Im not sure if you are the first one to think that, but i'm sure you wont be the last, its easy to get confused when your first starting out in the world of computers so dont worry about it.

How about letting us know what the PC will be used for i.e. just surfing the web or gaming that sort of thiing, then we will see what we can come up with, are you comfortable around the internals of a PC? If not you may want to get someone that is to give you a hand building it or failing that you may be better suited to a Pre-Built Computer?

Roughly how large is your budget? What you need to get to build a system is:

- case & power supply unit
- mother board & processor (make sure both use the same standard)
- memory
- harddrive(s)
- optical drive(s) cd, cd-r(w), dvd, dvd-r(w) or combo
- network- and soundcard (if not integrated on the motherboard)
- monitor, keyboard and mouse

and other stuff as you may wan't to get it, like speakers for sound etc.

Welcome to the forums.

I'd recommend that you spend quite a few days reading the stickies here in the forums, and the articles available on the front page. Once you get a bit of grounding in the basics, you can decide what kind of rig you want to build to accomodate your needs. From there you can figure out what you can put together that's within the confines of your budget.

When you say 2.4 GHZ do you want a true 2.4GHZ or if you are ok with an AMD system then would an XP2400+ (2.0 GHZ) be ok? I'll give my two opinions for both platforms on the cheap and you can go from there.

CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2400+ Intel P4 2.4
motherboard: Shuttle AN35 Nforce 2 Abit IC-7
RAM: 2x256MB Buffalo PC3200
Case: whatever suits your needs and prefference
Power supply: Fortron 350 watt
Hard drive: 60GB Western Digital
video card: Nvidia TI 4200 or ATI Radeon 9000
CD-rw/DVD-rom: Lite On CD-rw/DVD-rom combo drive
Keyboard/monitor/mouse: Up to you and your budget

These are simply my recommendations and I'm sure others will chime in and give there opinions as well.
