I'm building a newer system, I'm not a gamer, but I do a lot of research so often have a pile of browser windows minimized with Torrent client running, music playing and maybe a video or clip needing to be run with the system up 24/7 on a UPS. I'm currently running Win7 with no plan to upgrade the OS. Want something not top of the line, but upgradable as for CPU as newer comes out and current prices go down. Have gathered some ideas, but I'm behind the times on current builds, so here is my list. Would you take a look and tell me what you think please?

MB : GIGABYTE GA-H97-HD3 LGA 1150 Intel H97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
Model #:GA-H97-HD3 $97.00 --- newegg

cpu: $199.99 ----- Intel Core i5-4590 Processor - Quad Core, 6MB Smart Cache, 3.3GHz, LGA-1150 Socket -
BX80646I54590 tigerdirect

CPU Fan/heatsink $27.99 ----- SilverStone Argon AR02 CPU Cooler - 92mm PWM Fan, 3 Ø6mm Copper
Heat-Pipes, Aluminum Fins, Hypro Bearing, 1200~2800RPM with PWM Speed, 56CFM Air Flow, 16-24dBA Noise -
AR02 Item#: KIV-101751206 | Model#: RL-AR02 Tigerdirect

Crucial Ballistix Sport 32GB Kit (8GBx4) DDR3 1600 (PC3-12800) 240-pin UDIMM BLS4KIT8G3D1609DS1S00 /
BLS4CP8G3D1609DS1S00 -------- $169.99 Amazon

Two Seagate 2TB Desktop HDD SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive (ST2000DM001)
$72.99 ea ----- Amazon

Lite-On Super AllWrite IHAS124-04-KIT 24X DVD+/-RW Dual Layer Burner + Nero 12 Essentials Burning
Software + Sata Cable Kit $23.99 Amazon

Still need a PS, got an ATX case already. Atempting to stay under $600.00-US, like the MB because of the
# of SATA and USB 3.0 sockets and ability to replace Video and Nic if onboard die.

Any comments or better hardware/deals? Thanks for feedback.

There will not be any new CPUs on that platform. You would want to buy B150 and non O/C Skylake chip if you ar enot overclcoking.

That would kill my budget, may just have to stick with whats listed then. Thanks.

Pretty much what it looks like here is you'll have to buy a mobo/cpu down the road if you want to upgrade vs. being able to just buy a CPU. The 1150 chipset is rounding it's last lap on the market and the development for it is going to cease so you will need to change MOBOs down the line as well, that's why ED suggested moving to the Skylake chipset.

Why would it? There are plenty affordable B150 boards and locked chips...

Sorry, but have no idea what you are talking about as to B150. Looked up Gigabyte B150 and saw something like a $285.00 price tag and $400.00 CPU pricing. Like I said I am not up on current hardware so maybe you could give me a link or two so I can find out what your speaking about please.

The B150/H170 based motherboards are the lower end chipset for the new Skylake Processors. They will be out shortly. Those should be $100 or less for the boards. As far as CPUs that go with it... i6500 or i6400?? Not sure on their pricing, but you have $200 budgeted in your list in the first post, so any that fit there...

I googled some links for you :): http://wccftech.com/intel-skylake-s...d-z170-100series-chipset-replace-z97-2h-2015/

Okay, got it. Thanks for the links and will look into it. Still might go with what I posted though, but maybe should wait until the new stuff comes out so the older will drop in price. Been running the same rig for some years, so not needing latest greatest overclock-able killer system.

You'd be better off going with HGST or WD hard drives. Seagate has not been making quality products of late.
