Calling Iwill KK266 owners...

Just to update further, I was able to get to 142FSB and had SETI crunching most of the day, but had a lockup using the computer last night. I went ahead and bumped the VIO to + 10%. We'll see how it goes.

Upping the VIO to +10% didn't cut it either. I'm back to running at 138FSB. I may replace the KK266-R with an ECS K7S5A and try for 150FSB. I swapped my DDR in my other K7S5A with one of the sticks from the Iwill board, and the ECS board didn't even blink. I could get more SETI crunching power for about $54 with the ECS.

It could be the Athlon XP or any other number of components that are limiting you, but I have a T-bird running at 1.5 (10.5 x 142) without any problems! I've got 1-256M Micron PC-133 Dimm with a heat spreader and my memory settings are maxed out! I would think your board would be capable (142 fsb) as well since yours is a kk266-r and mine is a kk266, but again it could be the processor, memory, or one of your other components that might not like the high FSB... As for the idea of going with a K7S5A, you'll find a lot of people who say it is a cheap board not meant for overclockers, I am not one of those people! I've built several systems for others on that board and it continues to impress me, so I say go ahead if you want to... The only reason I have not upgraded to that board is because I'm waiting for the Hammer, but if you've not already heard, OCworkbench has a wonderful "FAQ" devoted to that board. Goodluck and happy overclocking! :D

...and I already own a K7S5A. I'll be going for 150 FSB again soon. It's not the processor that is the problem. I had the Iwill at 147FSB for months. It's the KK266-R that is the problem. There are numerous threads about it at many forums. The KK266 doesn't like the higher XP's. I can't even get back to previous Thunderbird FSB levels and the only thing that has changed is the CPU. I may upgrade the ECS to a KT266A platform and relegate the ECS board to take the SDRAM and CPU from the Iwill. I may bring the Iwill out of the closet later to serve duty to a 1.4Ghz TB.

Just another follow-up:

I've been running at the standard 133FSB for a few days. I did a reboot today, and system didn't come back. Going back to a TB until I can replace the board.

I've managed to get my 1700+ XP CPU stable on my KK266-R because I modded my board, I did the 5V mod, added some capacitors, and after doing an I/O mod to get the board @ 3.62V, but it's most likely just on the edge of stability, cause I can't even try to go over the default speed, and play a divx movie without a crash.

I'm just afraid to go over 3.62V I/O, but would it hurt to go higher, like 3.7/3.8V I/O?

I'm going to a 1.4 ghz t-bird, just waiting for it to come in.
