Can an overclocked MSI GTX 980 Ti be powered by an Antec Neo Eco 620c?

hello :)

i'm considering upgrading to msi gtx 980 ti gaming 6, and was wondering if antec neo eco 620c (rebadged seasonic) is good enough to power this card overclocked? It is more than three years old and have not had any issues powering a evga gtx 970 OC'd.

also, my PSU has 1 x 6-pin pcie plug and 1 x 8-pin (6+2) pcie plug running from a single 12v rail of 48 amps. The card requires 2 x 8-pin plugs but comes with a 6-pin to 8-pin adapter. Can I safely connect the 6-pin plug to the 6 to 8-pin adapter to complete the power connection for full overclocking?

You should be just fine with the PSU. I'm never a big fan of adapters but it'll work.

o hai EarthDog! :)

but yea, on second thought, cpu and gpu are going to be overclocked and the psu is a few years old so i am uncertain if the psu can last a few more years with the higher load system, i might just upgrade to a different psu to be safe, idk

if i decide to upgrade a psu, would u reckon a supernova 750w B2 be enough for overclocking the next few years?

Your system will be lucky to hit 420W actual use, even with overclocking. Your current PSU will be fine.

that seems strangely low, how did u come up with those figures on a GTX 980 Ti?

My revieq - http://www.overclockers.com/msi-gtx-980-ti-gaming-6g-video-card-review/

See power draw numbers at the bottom... 403W peak (subtract 10% for psu). That is with an overclocked 980ti. ;)

lol i looked over thru your article twice before jumpin in the threads, did not know that :p

i was not sure if that figure was system or gpu power consumption, glad you confirmed it is system.

and why subtract 10%? should it not be 20% due to 80% efficiency?

Same thing I told him at one of the other forums.
EOCF actually.

yes that is correct.

r u stalking me? lol

Platinum level psu.. it's ~90% efficient there.. so take 10% off for ballpark power use of the system. :)

Ok, I got the MSI GTX 980 Ti earlier this week and did not have time to test until this weekend. So I have now overclocked and tested after a few hours of Crysis 3 gaming session and my results were this:

peaks around 460ish watts @ 96% GPU load, 70C but mostly hovering around 350-450ish watts

:)
