Hi all

I have been away for a litte while and im a bit rusty. I have at the moment got a 1.9 xp in an Asus a7v333 mobo. I am thinking of getting a 2.6xp (333 mhz) cpu so my question is will it run/fit. Or will it run, but just at 266?
Or should it get the 266 flavour. I would upgrade the mobo too but funs do not permit, just the cpu.

So whats your opinion guys?

Thanks

Depends what revision your A7v333 is.If its 1.01 or 1.something then it seems some people have got 333s to work but it is not officially supported by Asus.
If its 1.2 or above then 333 XPs will work fine,at 333fsb.have a look at your mobo will say what rev it is,behind PCI slots I think.I have 1.02 rev so cannot be sure that any other than 266fsb will work on mine.Good luck

Cheers for that.
I got it running at about 158 I think, maybe more, but so far I cant go the ful 166. Perhaps the beta drivers Asus have will solve it, but I will wait till its goes full release before I try.

Cheers again:)

What cpu are you using that you can't get to run at 166FSB?
I've tried every bios there is from 1006 and now using the 1018.001 beta without any problems reaching 192FSB with this XP2100 tbned b.

Its BIOS 1017 ( the most recent one, there is a more recent one listed as beta at Asus' site, but I left that one alone)and it runs at 162 (x12.5) now with occasional crashes. The crashes might be to do with the game editong program I use, but it might not.
A friend of mine suggested upping the voltage, its at 1.65 right now (auto)
Also on the Asus A7V333 should the interrupt mode be set to APIC or PIC. There are loads of options there and its hard to know what they all mean, is there any link or anything that as an optimal setup guide for all of these wonderfully named settings in the bios?

The memory is 2700 Samsung and as far as I know its tip top.
I got the FSB up to about 164 but under heavy loads it crashes, hard lock.
I am on the defualt voltage right now and just wondered if I should up it a tiny bit. Anyone got any ideas of what to up it to?

Cheers

It may be the 1017 bios. I was starting to burn in my new xp2600 rev8, and was doing ok at 171 x 12.5 (that's the max fsb I've been able to get with may palom1600 171 x 10.0). I naively updated BIOS to the 1017, and all H--- broke loose. Difficulty booting, explorer got weird, etc. I had to back off the fsb to 133 and the multi to 10 in order to get it stable. Switching back to BIOS1016 wasn't so easy--had to ezflash from floppy, but now I'm back up and running 171 x 12.5. I guess the 1017 is for 2600rev10?

I think I'll try unlocking the upper multis if I can find that article about tieing the wire between two pins on the back of the cpu. I'm really curious about how far I can oc the cpu, since the fsb is maxed.

1017 bios supports all memory up to pc3500. As you can see in my sig, I have both PC3500 and PC3000 and they both work fine.

I am also running the 1017 bios fine and dandy. FSB is stable up to 180mhz or so. Rev 1.04 board though, maybe the older ones aren't stable at the higher FSB's?
