I have just put together and tested my new pc and it is sitting pretty at 2.8Ghz which i am happy with but couldi get more out of her i am struggling to find a program that will give me accurate tempson the cpu..could anyone help and let me know if i should try push her a little harder...
thanks:beer:

I don't see why you couldn't, check people's sigs they have gotten higher than that with that chip. what are you using for cooling?

Coretemp and TAT will give you tempatures to work from.

BTW you should have at least 3.2Ghz in her. But its more of a question of cooling at that point. The MB should take it and the ram, can be made to take it.

Do you really need 1.3625V to get it prime stable there?

i am sure that if i want to take it any higher i will need a better cooler which i am planning to buy asap. any reccomendations on that? not gonna push it with a stock cooler just not worth it.

All i can say for cooling Thermalright Ultra-120 :) I'll just leave it at that.

when it comes to using both cores does it come down to the program as to when the 2 cores are used. I ask as i tried to unrar 2 files and it only used the one core now as i understood it each file should of run off of each core seperatly?? is that correct?

It should but if there isn't much operation in it it might not even attempt to use both.

The second core is jumping around from anything between 6% and 62% being used but the other core doesnt come into play at all? does that seem right?

Doesn't seem right at all. Was the operating system a fresh install with the new hardware?

are you only watching it in everest or have you tried watching the activity in windows task manager as well?
Do you see both cores in windows task manager?

the other tower cooler to consider would be the Tuniq Tower 120
And downward facing would be the TT SI-128

re: the OT...

you will be totally ram limited. your cpu and mobo SHOULD be able to do 500fsb without much of a fuss.

the ram...will have to overclock very nicely to keep up.

to get 3.2ghz, you need to run 457fsb, so your ram also has to run at 457mhz, or ddr2-914. this should be attainable, but if you want much more, you might hit a wall. only way to find out is to test. ;)

no, no prog will give you that info. just make sure you have decent airflow around them.

I like all of the ones listed in this thread better then the Zalsman (It costs more and it doesn't work as well)

and HBB is right, if your LUCKY youll get 450FSB out of your ram, unless you got it a while back (4-5 months ago) or old stock.
