Hi,

I have been searching through the fourms as a complete noob & would like some advice for the following setup please?

ASUS P5QD Turbo Mainboard

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 G0 Stepping (2.4GHz 1066MHz) Socket 775 L2 8MB Cache (2x4MB (4MB per core pair) Retail Boxed Processor

2 x Kingston 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 HyperX Memory CL5 1.85v

1 x Inno3D 9600GT OC 512MB DDR3 Overclocked Edition Dual DVI TV Out PCI-E Graphics Card

580W PSU

Xigmatic Cobra Cooler

I have currently got the system overclocked as the following

9X366 FSB
Increased DRAM Voltage to 1.9v

The System has been working fine & stable except maybe a little hot at 69-70% Core Temp under load (Encoding)

My question is with regards to my confusion on the Dual Channel Ram that I have (4 X 2GB) 800mhz. Does 800mhz mean maximum 400mhz each? as I would really like to run this system with a FSB of 400X8 which is a lower overall clock speed than it is running fine at (3294) but the Bios wont display if I choose 400X8

Can someone please point me in the right direction as to the best/most economic settings for my system please?

Many Thanks In Advance

The effective frequency rating of 400MHz (DDR2-800) only means that is the frequency that the RAM is rated by the manufacturer to run at. That doesn't mean that it can't run at a higher frequency. If you want to try running it at 400MHz at a 1:1 FSB : DRAM ratio w/ the FSB at 400MHz, then manually adjust the four primary timings to 5-5-5-15 (assuming these are the rated timings; adjust as necessary) and the DRAM voltage to 1.85V. Also set the Command Rate to 2N / 2T, and leave all the DRAM sub-timings on Auto.

Hi,

Many Thanks For Your Reply...

I have just got home & tried what you said but found that everything you had mentioned was selected by default anyway, except for the Command Rate as I cannot find that option anywhere at all! The interesting thing is that I am actually unable to select 400 FSB for any value, even 6X I tried 6X, 7X & 8X so for now I have set everything back to default & CPU Z is stating the following

Core Speed 1600
Multiplier x6
Bus Speed 266.7
Rated FSB 1066

Can anyone advise me as to the best way I can overclock this system as I am unable to set it as others have in this forum (8X100) or (9X100)

Many Thanks

Err, been a while since had my 775 setup.. do you have the "FSB strap" set to a specific timing configuration or do you have it on auto.. if it's the latter try setting it to mach the FSB your trying to run, sometimes it dont pick up on that?

Also, upping your NB voltage (forget exact name on that platform), may help.

and.. :welcome: to the forums

Hi

Thanks for your reply, I can get the pc to boot on any fsb except 100. I wanted to use 100 as I thought it would be best if everything was running at the same rate?
