you think you know all about computer hardware? well, let's find out!

requirements:
Best CPU
2 SCSI Ultra 320 hard drives (more than 36GB, i don't know what other sizes are available) striping w/ redundancy (raid 2 i believe?)
maxed out memory capacity (kingston preferred)
supported motherboard
DVD+-RW fastest
DVD-ROM fastest
Best GFX card (x800xt?)
the best cooling system (vapor chilled? anything besides water cooled)
a nice case (antec preffered w/ PSU)

let's see how creative you can get!

***i will buy the exact parts from the winning post provided by u guys. money is not an issue to me, i make enough and it is finally time for me to go allllll out. (i'm looking at about $10,000, if not, more)***

thanks soo much and i look forward to not upgrading within the next 3 or so years

EDIT:
replaced "P4 extreme edition cpu" with stated above

EDIT #2:
well, honestly, this is going to be sold to the government. don't ask me why, but they asked me to build them the absolutely top of the line system as of today. i need to get this done within the next 2-3 weeks. that explains the $10,000 =)

please guys, put up a full post of the items i should get. (best cooling system other than water cooling as far as cooling goes.). time is running out =(

thanks so much!

so far, i have the following in mind:

5 SCSI in Raid 5 array
4GB of Corsair memory
X800 XT/PRO (is xt available yet?)

please add on to my list!

Unless you need this PC right away, I'd wait for PCI Express to come out

10 grand...I could get a used sports car for that....jesus.

You can get the highest performance from today's mainstream parts in a desktop for around 4 or 5 grand, tops.

What is this thing going to be used for anyways?

for cooling you should go with a 3-stage cascade, but I dunno if you can buy those...

The PSU should be a PCP&C. WAY better than Antec or Sparkle/Fortron.

For the rest of the components, I'd wait until DDR2, PCI-E, BTX, and Dual-Core Athlons come out until I'd do anything.

No, I think he could spend the 10g's. If you went to town with the cooling, like phase change, or pelletier, loaded up with only the top quality components, and then burned the rest :D

I say, buy a m+2500, x800, the works for now, then have like 8000 left over for pci and what ever. As for case, go lian. Also afaik, kingston is crap for overclocking. Get come good giel, ocz, or corsair.

MAN thats some serious money, i work in the server market and have experience making performance machines too lol!!! drool!

Get 4 of those hard drives and run them in raid5
Dual Opteron... or Dual Itanium... or Dual Xeon
about 4GB of the best geil ram
X800
Full watercooling system/phase change
Lots of eye candy
2 of those ultra quick samsung lcd monitors (12ms)
er... and a ratz pad

Dual Xeon Nocona 3.6ghz
Not sure on motherboard
2 x Geforce 6800 Ultra in SLI config
4 gigs or more ram (if possible DDR2)
why SCSI?
2 x 74GB SATA Raptor or 4 of them in raid config woot!
2 x of those 400GB HD's
dual layer plextor DVDrw SATA
ack why not add another plextor
choice of phase change system in large Antec Server size case with custom Window cut out
pcpower and cooling 510 PSU
SB Audigy with External Setup w/optical Bose Surround Sound System hooked up (or better)
Bose Surround Sound Headphones (for when the wife is complaining)
Dual 19" LCD's with very fast rate! or 2 small DLP projectors
3.5" 10 in 1 memory card reader with floppy
small LCD screen to display temps/song selection/whatever you want lots to choose from
Orinico/Cisco Wireless to go with probably the onboard gigabit ethernet
Blue Tooth (maybe you have one of those phones)
Force Feedback Joysticks/Wheel
Logitech Wireless kb/mouse setup

 Amazing! Though you left out the IBM Model M keyboard (best. keyboard. ever. period.) However, I do have to agree on waiting for PCI-E & dual-core CPUs to come out. You wouldn't want your $10,000 system start to get beat by $5,000 would you?

how long is that wait? I know pci-E is coming along in probably 1-2 months, but then people will say to wait for such and such model of pci-E.

right now... I dont know if this exists, but Id go dual A64s if they have dual mobo for them.

3-4gigs of ram, whatever itll support.
x800xt
74gb raptor drive, however many you want.
the rest is insignificant. all that matters in a pc is ram, mobo, proc, and vid card and I guess HDs in your case. the rest is gravy IMO. get the best of the best, and your only gonna spend maybe 250$.

^^^^^ (regarding PsychiatristNET's post) thank you! that's the type of info i'm looking for. i will be researching those items mentioned above so that'll keep me occupied for the next few hours.

i'll definitely take this into consideration.

anyone else want to add?

You could just spend like, 5 or 6 grand on the computer, and put the rest into a T3 line.

It sounds like you can afford one, so why not?

Oh, FYI, if you want really killer specs, go with professional level graphics cards, and some type of dually. I'm talking $2-$3000 for the graphics card alone.

It's your money...

[Edit:]

Well, did a bit of quick research, nVidia's best graphics card AFAIK is the Quadro FX 4000. Here's the specs of it, compared to the rest of their pro-level graphics cards. Price is around $1,900.

[Edit #2:]

What in the hell does the government want with a gaming system!?
Also, out of curiosity, are we allowed to know about this?

Watch us all mysteriously disappear.....

Bleh, enough edits. Ok, come level with is here.

You say you finally make enough money to go all out on a gaming PC for you...now all of a sudden you were comissioned to do this by the government...

Sorry if I seem suspicious, but we are helping you out, so wanna give us the facts?

This seems a little sketchy to me...I can't imagine that the government needs a high end gaming machine, and if they did why wouldn't they call up a large computer manufacturer.
