From my experience, before you do anything manually you should try to use the Auto-Tune.. from your AMD catalyst software
from my Phenom II 1090T which base Clock 3.2 and Turbo at 3.6. I was able to go up to 3.9 but I found 3.8 was more stable
This will not just change multiplier for you but it will actually give extra voltage boost accordingly
I used to mess with AMD OverDrive software. it's pretty good but if you want to start with simple OC try the Auto-Tune
Just letting you know, if you have another tuning software Catalyst might not work from my experience
Also you need real clean power coming from your PSU to achieve good results.
I'm super lazy overclocker but eventually I should try to see which core I can overclock more than 3.9 but then I've been saying that for the last 4 years LOL
