Ok, picked myself up an 80GB Barracuda today (8MB Cache)... removed all the old HD's, installed new one, set it up in the BIOS... it's the master, my CDRW is the slave (on primary IDE). Proceeded to use the included Seagate CD to install the drive (not sure why really...) it used NTFS file system, and formatted it in less than 30 seconds. Didn't think too much about it and went to install Windows XP Pro... I get errors (about 15-20) in the first 10% of copying the files over from the CD that it can't copy it. What's up with this? Did I mess up somewhere, or is the harddrive defective? I'll be at work for about 5 hours tonight, but will respond this evening. Thank you!

Did you back down to default speed when installing? Just my opinion also, I'd let the Windows install CD partition and format the HD.

For some reason, windows installation is more stressful on a system than most overclocking stress tests. Slow down for the install and repartion and reformat from inside the installer.

I'll try slowing the speed down. And yes, I did have Windows try and partition with NTFS.. took 40 minutes. :(

Yes, it will take 40 minutes or so as not only does Windows Install partition your new drive, it will also scan the disk for errors as it formats.

Well, I guess slowing down worked... just did a quick NTFS format, worked great. Thanks fellas. :)

This is probably a little to late but you might want to consider separating the hard drive from the CD-ROM. It is kind of a general rule to connect optical drives to one IDE port and hard drives to the other (although others will argue different).
Your system may have simply had a problem copying files from a CD-ROM to a hard drive through the same cable.
Just one mans thought.

Good point - I am running the CDROM in the primary right now because I pulled the pins outta my other round cable (stupid POS ;)), but I could see that being a possible problem. Anywho, it's up, it's running... yay for me, I now have 70GB instead of 12.something. :D

I’m glad to hear she’s running well.
To bad about the cable pin.
I had something similar happen only it was a single pin on a 60gig Maxtor HD.
The pin broke off one day due to my clumsiness in trying to connect a cable to it.
I thought I killed it for good but it’s still working fine.
My little brother uses it for a storage drive on his system.
Laters.

Well, I actually pulled the plastic part off the IE cable... not the pin on the HD. :)
