I put together my new rig with a 3.2c, & I cannot get my temps down. My system shuts itself off after a couple of secodns. I am using the stock cooler & radioshack thermal paste. Anyone have any ideas with whats wrong with this?

Imperial, That heatsink should work fine . The paste while not the best is ok as I have used in in a pinch .

Are you sure you have the heatsink seated correctly

Are you using to much paste?

I would take it of , Clean it and start over making sure you drop the heatsink straight down on the cpu then engage all the clips

good Luck

I don't always get a perfect drop onto the heatsink. Should I move things slowly? I have tried a lot of paste as well as a little & I still can't seem to have any luck.

First of all, the stock cooler is not the best heatsink out there, so don't expect too much, but there are way to improve your temperatures, regardless. I would recommend getting different thermal grease, radioshack brand is not the best stuff on the market. Go for Artic Silver 5 or Ceramique (available at www.svc.com). Also, when you get the grease, follow the instructions specifically designed for it, here: http://www.arcticsilver.com/instructions.htm .

Regardless of whether you do any of my above suggestions or not, your computer should still boot. Make sure everything is seated correctly and the heatsink is mounted properly. When you say it turns on for a few seconds, do you mean fans spin all the way up and then it stops, or fans just turn a drop and then stop? Good luck! Keep us updated.

1. New heatsink.
2. More fans (always helps ;) )
3. Arctic Silver 5

“Arctic Silver uses micronized silver compounds to increase the thermal conductivity of the compound in order to better transfer heat from the CPU to the heatsink. Using Arctic Silver over the white grease will yield a 3-8C drop in temps over the white compound allowing you to have a cooler CPU and potentially more room to overclock with. You can buy Arctic Silver here http://www.overclockers.com and find out how to apply it properly here, http://www.overclockers.com"

Well everything is working now...I don't know what was causing the problems. All is well now though:)
