Can't login

I have a computer that won't log in. It's windows XP, and when your on the login screen you click a username and it says loading files and settings...then the desktop flashes up for a half of second then it says "saving files and settings" and goes back to the log in screen...it logs out automatically. Anyone know what this could be? A virus maybe?

how long have you had this windows installed? maybe windows corrupted... try repairing the installation from the cd. if that doesnt work, reinstall.
