Hi All,

Just obtained following config, is stable at 100/33 x 12 but if I run it at 133/33 x 9 it locks up under windows 2000, Desperatly seeking help.

Here is what is in the system:

1. Amd 1.2Ghz (266Mhz) AXIA model (no idea what AXIA means)
2. Abit KT7A mobo / Seagate Barracuda ATA III 7200 rpm 40gig
3. 256 meg 133 sdram
4. SB Live! 5.1
5. SCSI controller with CD-R attached
6. Intel Ethernet adaptor

I'm out of ideas, if I run at 100/33 x 12 everything is fine, but if I go to 133/33
then the system will almost always freeze after just 5 minutes in windows
2000, its a new machine with a new install of O/S (Service pack 2).

Any ideas what this could be?

Abit motherboards do all kinds of weird things like that. Mine wouldn't do 1333 (10x133), but it would do 1400 (10x140), so I got an Iwill and everything is working nicely now :)

Try feeding your processor a little bit more. Default is 1.7 Vcore, so try 1.8 and see if it likes it. Just remember to have adequate cooling.

Good luck!

Have you tried the K7 CLK_CTL to optimal? This otion made it possible for me to go higher then 10 multiplier. Maybe you should do ths so you can go lower in the multiplier settings. Just a thought.

Hi Everyone,

Well, I'm back on the air! The machine
is running sweet now with 133/33 x 9
for a 1.2Ghz Athlon, been stable for hours
now and passes all SANDRA burn in tests.

However, I have to say that we found that
you SHOULD NEVER use a sound blaster LIVE
card with an ABIT KT7A motherboard!

It caused nothing but grief, once removed
all we had to do was set the memory speed
in the BIOS to 'FAST' (as opposed to
Turbo) and everything is sweet.

If anyone reading this knows of anyone having stability problems, with this mobo who is running a SB LIVE! sound card, get them to remove it, it is nothing but a trouble maker.

EG, when running benchmarks the inclusion of the SB LIVE! caused a 60% drop in disk benchmarks (assuming you could keep the system running that long).

Why is this? Who knows? Many thanks to my
friend for helping me with this hardware issue :)
