this never happened before i create another partition in the disk. they r two, 10GB for the OS (W2K pro) and 30GB. when i try to scan the 10GB, windows will give me a message saying it cant get exclusive access to the volume, and if i want to schedule the process. why is that?
thanks.

This is a known limitation on W2K and possibly XP. Go ahead and schedule the process and it will run on reboot. The Scandisk process requires exclusive access to override the WFP(Windows File Protection) service, if I remember correctly.

Mine also does the same thing. when you scedule the scan what it will do is give you a black screen with white letters next time you boot.. It will do a count down and then start to scan your drive. It's perfectly safe and there's nothing to worry about. It's just not the fancy GUI interface that us windows users are addicted to.
