Are these worth it? The money isn't a problem (they're cheap), but do they really help much in overall cooling?

I've read that they can divert cool air from the intakes away from the CPU, thus raising those temps. Is this true?

IMO they are crap. Bought one and it was a waste for me. Also, slot coolers have been known to die rather quickly and the time they are running give little or most of the time negative effects. I find that regular axial fans and blowholes are a much cheaper and more effective.

i poseted a similar question about a week ago because i found that in my system a card cooler actually made my temps worse.
while it did feel like it was moving a lot of air, it seemed to actually be holding heat in, possibly because it was sandwiched pretty tightly between my sound and vid cards.

there is another type of card cooler that mounts to the back of the case and blows down across all your cards. unfortunately i couldnt find any pictures or links to any of them (i'll keep looking), and i havent heard anything on how well they work either. if you dont want to start cutting holes in your case i beleive these line up with the vents in the sides of a lot (most?) cases.

i think that the idea was good but the design and execution of teh product was a little too much. The air flow that they expected the thing to accomplish was too much and in result just made the performance worse! Too Bad
:(
The link that Stool pulled up seems like it should work but then something that simple I would rather build myself. Instead of that use 2 80mm.

Lou,

i've got one of those installed right now. they are alright, but a little awkward in a mid sized case. it would be nice if i were able to aim it at my ram, but 1) it would block some of the airflow from the front intake and, 2) it comes with a plastic piece that gets plugged into one of your pci/isa slots to support it, cause they're kinda long when extended. you may be able to get away without using the support, but i havent tried yet.
(why cant i point it at the ram? vid card is in top slot, i could put it in above but the support wont go into that short little slot without trimming the plastic some.)

a couple other things. the fans on them arent all that great. one of them on mine has a habit of sputtering (kinda starting, then stopping) it it isnt tilted at just the right angle. and be sure to check the desc. to see if you are getting the intake or the blower (i noticed that that pages doesnt say), you can turn the fans around on them, but you'll need different screws then the ones that come with it. or just tape the fans on like i did.

Anyone have any experience with one of these?
I had one of these a while ago, and wasn't really impressed with the airflow or cooling abilities. I ended up removing it and selling it. It actually is more designed to point at your drive bays.
