Gamespot gives it an 8.0

The Good

* The story and cutscenes are wonderfully corny
* Fully cooperative campaign gives standard missions new life
* Each faction is fun to play thanks to cool, balanced units
* Vibrant visual design and smooth performance.

The Bad

* Problematic pathfinding and other glitches
* Clunky co-op invite system.

Should you go this route, your online partner (co-op play is unavailable on a local network) will take the role that the AI otherwise would, making the specific objectives mentioned above even more satisfying. It's a treat to play this way, and as you can imagine, completing a mission with a real-life counterpart is more compelling; it's a wonder that strategy games haven't attempted this sort of venture before. Unfortunately, getting another player into the match is a bit cumbersome. You must choose the mission and then enter the online lobby to issue the invitation, and when you invite the player, the game offers no feedback to let you know that the invite has been sent. The invited player does receive a notification pop-up and an invite notice, though there are times when the invitee won't receive an issued invitation, for no discernible reason.

Disappointing knowing you cant do coop on LAN. Also seems like EA has once again screwed up their online connectivity portion of the game.

co-op over a local network being disabled is the most retarded thing I have EVER read. Thanks EA...

Looking over other reviews...this basically sums it up.

Nothing revolutionary (not that it was trying to be), but still a simple and fun game.

wth why would you have co-op and not make it available on LAN. Maybe thats a good thing since most of the time i tried to play cnc lan games with some of my buddies it would crash right before the actual war started or someone would time out every game.

Yeah...this is because they keep recycling the same code over and over. CC3, LOTR Battle for Middle Earth share the same crap.

EA, like everyone else nowadays...wants to make LAN play a thing of the past or requiring you to even log in to their servers before playing it. Neverwinter Nights 2 and Company of Heroes does this. THIS IS CRAP.

Anyone actually play this yet???

Yes, I beat the Soviet campaign already. Its really fun if you are a C&C fan. Its simple and fast paced like C&C3 was but obviously in a much more hilarious universe.

I personally don't care about LAN co-op, because now I don't have a bank of computers in my basement anymore. Since my friend is at his house and I'm at mine....

The co-op commander part is actually pretty awesome. Too bad you share credits (at least in the campaign), but sometimes I suppose this is okay.

Also it runs fine on Vista 64.

Thanks EA. Can't even install because you morons forgot 1 character in my cd key. And since I only get 3 guesses before the install kicks me out...I am already ****ed.

Each set of characters is suppose to be 4 long. The last set is 3. So I basically have to do trial and error over and over till I guess the last number.

There's a lot of people with this issue apparently. Lame.

EDIT-Just guessed it. Started with numbers....was a 3.

Disabling LAN was done just to spite pirates and gaming cafes who install the same copy on diff pc's, to prevent them all from playing through a network without going through EA's servers. That's EA for you. Doing annoying things to **** off their legitimate customers because some of the higher ups in EA have a big anti-piracy fanatical agenda.

Patch 1.01 released and now patch 1.02 just a few minutes ago. Supposedly helps with coop games and invites.

However, the autoupdate feature crashes for me. Gonna go to bed and download the file tomorrow.

Coop Campaign is fun. Plays really smooth. However again, I keep losing connection to the EA Authentication server. This only happens in between maps or if I am idle for a few minutes in a lobby. I never lose the game I am playing. It also autosaves for you which is nice incase you mess up.

I hated C&C 3.... I loved RA2 though. Now I want to play it!

Guess you never heard of Hamachi.

Guess you never heard of Hamachi.

Nope. I haven't. Last time I had a couple computers in my house was years ago where these problems didn't exist. (Or game modes for that matter).

Looks interesting, but so far the online has worked fine for me.

Only drawback to online play so far is having to manually add friends from a chat window. Considering I have to register some EA.com id with my account, I should be able to plug in a friends name and find them, rather than meet in the same random chat channel.

Also, I had that same patcher problem the first time, it would just hang and do nothing. Then it finally worked for some reason. My friend had to update his manually but we were playing fine last evening.
