Hello everybody,
I need an advise concerning my CDD4851/31 produced by IONICS EMS Philippines. It is 12x8x32 drive and I do not have problem with writing of new cds. The problem comes with reading CDs. When I try to copy a CD to the hard disk then there are very often reports for "cyclic redundancy check" and after that copiing just stops. It happens with all kind of CDs and at different positions of one and the same CD and it is not due to a bad recorded CD. I already tried almost all Philips firmwares as this is a Philips drive but no progres at all. The cd writer came with firmware P 3.0. I tried also P 3.1 and the problem is still there. P 3.8 and P 4.0 give another problem. I am able to read CDs with these two but then reading is done very slowly and as if in steps and I can hear the drive acclelerating and stopping in short intervals. I tried cleaning of the lens and nothing. My OS is Windows XP. Does anybody know how to solve such problem or I will have to be satisfied with the low quality of Philips products?
Thanks in advance

Have you got the newest drivers? Are the CDs copy protected? (needs a CRC you said?)

Are the CDs dirty?

No David,
The CDs are clean and I can not find anywhere drivers for this CD writer. I think it uses the built in drivers of windows. But this problems with reading occur even when installing windows XP from a bootable CD. So the problem seems to me to be due to firmware but could be mistaken of course.
