Should you take extra steps to cool these 52X CDRWs? I put one in the top bay of an older case where the only exhaust fan was the PSU fan and the CDRW has gone bad. Thanks.

I don't thinks it's necessary to cool a CDRW drive but I did leave an empty drive bay between that drive and my DVD drive to give it more breathing room.

I dought it has gone bad due to heat issues. If your case was getting that hot, your CPU would be unstable also. The only thing that I would suggest if you think that excessive heat killed the drive is to install a blow hole with fan in the top of the case. This would allow the heat at the top of the case to be exhausted out.
THE FANMAN:cool:

Unless you were burning lots of disks, back to back, then I can't see that heat buildup was the culprit in your failure.
When I did my first major file backup I burned maybe 50 CDs, one after the other and didn't really notice a major case temp change.

I strapped 12 226w peltiers on the top and bottom of my CDRW. I 'burn' CDs at -30°C.

Really??? :D :D

I've got better cooler to cool CDRW + DVD + HDD + Floppy Disk all in one arrangement.

1st: Arrange CDRW + DVD + HDD + Floppy Disk on the evaporator. It's 14 inches wide, so it should be enough size.

2nd. Turn On the AC unit, and voila..... I can do BIOS FLASH -26C !!!
