Hello.
I'm planning on buying a CDRW. And I wanted TEAC. but it costs too much. So I'm left w/ the next options, all of 'em are 24x10x40 and cost almost the same, any feedback will be apriciated a lot:
ASUS
Ricoh
Sonny
LG
Panasonic
NEC

What would u recommend, better if u had expirience w/ those drives. thanks

My girlfriend(at my request and prodding) got me my lite-on 16x10x40 for christmas. I've burned tons of stuff with it. They came out with the 24x at the same price as teh one I got, right after I got mine. They make good drives and it really comes down to how much you want to spend and what you want to do with it. In my case making good backups was a big deal(as I have alot of expensive software I'd rather not lose the real disks to) so I did a little research and foudn that the lite-ons were a good be for my price range. I wish you the best of luck. let us know what you end up getting.

what makes tdk suck?
I just bought one for a test drive to see whether i like it or not.
Its a 32x10x40x and so far its decent.
Currently burns @ 24x using nero, could be the generic cheapo cd's i'm using even though it sez 1-32xcompatible.

I like it so far.

Plextor makes the BEST CDr's. Not my opinion, just the opinion of every review I've ever read on them, a close second is Sony. and make sure all the CDRs you buy are "made in Japan", not Tiawan.

Plextor is the Mercede's of CDRW...with the Mercede's PRICE. Great drives if you have money to burn.

Personnally, I like Lite-On CDRW's....great speed, reliability and price. Get the 24x Lite-On, it also has all the Clone CD cabability for making EXACT, binary copies. I recommend checking the Clone CD website for compatility/features before buying any burner. Interestingly, you will see that the Plextor's don't always support all the raw burning features.

Pricewatch shows the price diff as $30. The plex are more reliable, and have given me fewer mis-burns than the lite-on or the memorex i used to own. But certainly do a little research on your own, decide which features are important to you

I've got a TDK 241040b and I'm quite happy with it. It's just a rebadged Lite-On, so you could accomplish the same thing there. There are several places I've seen the 24x Liteons for $90 or less. I would go with a Lite-On based drive myself for the money.

Guys, ok, I understand.
Plextor is best, but it costs too much for me, the ones I can afford(sp?) is the ones I listed:

ASUS
Ricoh
Sonny
LG
Panasonic
NEC

Every one burn at max speed of 24.
I can't get anything off price watch cause I'm located in a different country, and I want to buy the CDRW in Israel. So I'm still open to suggestions

OK, u'r saying try? I can't just waste my money, and I dunno if they will replace it where I'm buying
I mean if I'll want to get another drive instead of the Panasonic on, although I know Panasonic makes great TVs and VCRs, I still have a TV that is almost as old as I am, its about 13-14yrs. old and still worx

Panasonic do not make good Cd-writers

From your list the Best one by far are Ricoh, they make very good quality drives.
Plextor are also very good.
But if you want a cheap one go for a Lite-on.

These three companies plus also Yamaha are the best for Cd-writers, i would not go for anything else.
Tdk are not bad too, but these are better.

if you want to read reviews of all drives go to: www.cdrinfo.com

The great USA!
You can get a Lite-On 40x burner at Newegg.com for 110.00 bucks, ...i'm actually thinking about it myself.

Here are my top picks in no certain order:

Plextor
TDK
Lite-On
HP (Owned 2 and both worked flawlessly)

I probably will give Lite-On a try because of price and good word of mouth.

ya i was lookn at teac, but i got a TDK also, i like it, i dont use it all that much so top of the line performance isnt a issue, just reliability, and its done that. I think i got the retail for 125 or something for the 24/10/40 a while ago, prolly gone down.

well i cant even think what my last burner was, but dont go with a TDK they really do suck... hope u find a good burner

Umm, what makes TDK suck. Mine 12x10x32 works great. Wont burn costers even when coppying from a cd drive on the same chanel without coppying to harddrive first. Besides, most TDK's are just plextors with a different face. May be out of your price range though. On bit of advice. If you have alimited budget then get a GOOD drive rather than a fast drive. From your list i would recomend Ricoh, iv heard some good things about them. Whatever you get, make sure it has burnproof, even if you have to drop some speed to afford it, its worth it.
