I've never seen anybody mention them, but it doesn't seem like a bad idea. What are the flowrates and pump life on something like that?

Those look like something that one would use for a commercial Domestic Hot Water System. They are used as recirc pumps (So you always have hot water on hand). These things are expensive new, but used??? I don't know if I would trust something from a scrap yard though (I would think it is scrap for a reason). They only usually last in a DHW system for about 3 or 4 years before they need rebuilding or replacement. Grundfos is a company that comes to mind that make these things.

here in Holland are they used in central heating systems those systems usually run for a bout 20 years and then they are replaced because the gas heaters and the rest of the system is getting old but the pumps usually keep’s running
but sometimes u will find also 5 year old systems whit pumps that are pretty new and if they start to ware out they start making noise so you just get a new one for free ore 5 bugs or so

They pump around 1000 to 5000 l/h (250 to 1200 gal/h) (got one here I can a just between 1000 and 5000l/h) and think they will lest me at least around 5 years, I ask my uncle he is a plumber and that's what he is saying and I was think a bout the same time

Just a suggestion. Why dont you buy one and hook it up to a mock waterblock and run it for a couple weeks to see how it performs, before you commit you expensive CPU to the idea. If it runs without any glitches then you could modify one for you computer.
Just a thought.

seems like a good idea. They also seem very small, or is the pic just decieving me? :)

They are actually kinda big. The top picture is probable made for a 1 inch copper pipe. They may be a little too big to fit into the case.

Since these things only run when the thermostat kicks in, then they might not be designed for continuous duty. Dunno what average duty cycle would be for designed life of 10 years or so, if it was only like 20% then you'd expect them to last maybe 2 years from new or something.
