I just built my first system and I'm not sure where to change the FSB setting, When I boot up to first screen it show's 900MHz AMD processor, I have a 1200MHz. I've looked through the forum and found nothing about this, is there a jumper on the board I need to change? because in bios I'm not able to change the multiplier or fsb setting's. I'm somewhat a newbie to this so any help is appreciated. Here's what I put together. Any suggestions?

ABIT KT7A-RAID VIA KT133 Chipset
AMD T-bird K7 1200 Mhz 266Mhz
Swifttech MC370-0A BLA heat sink
w/Delta Black Label Fan 38 CFM
2 MAXTOR 60.GB 5T06OH6 ULTRA100
Memorex 52X EIDE/ATAPI CDROM
TEAC 1.44 MB FLOPPY DRIVE
MacPower Digital Doc 5
2 - 512 MB SDRAM (Crucial PC 133)
enlight case w/2 80mm x80mm x25mm fans
300 watt pwr supply
Gladiac Ultra g-force 2 ultra
Creative Sound Blaster Live Platinum 5.1

Clearly you're running at a 100MHz fsb (sounds like you've already figured that much out). I think on the kt7a there's a jumper or bios setting to switch between 100 and 133MHz fsb speeds - it ought to mention it in the manual, so read that through thouroughly. Actually I'm assuming you have a 266 chip, not a 200 chip - if it's a '200' version then something is quite wrong, but for a 266 the multiplier will be 9 anyway.

Like I said - double check the manual, see if you can find out how to set it for a 133MHz fsb. I'll have a look on Abit's website, see if I can find anything - if I do I'll post again with the info.

UPDATE: I really ought to read properly before I post - you do have a 266MHz fsb chip. Thought so :)

Cacti, I just wanted to welcome you to the Overclockers.com Forums. You will find this community of enthusiasts very nice and helpful. To me and my time here I consider it family. Again welcome to the forums.

Thanks for quick responces, read through the manual a few times and either I'm overlooking something or it's not there. Like I said I'm new to this but bulding my own system has been alot of fun, I just need to get it running at the right fsb. It is running at 100mb fsb and work's but I didn't buy 133s to run 100mb. Thanks Cacti

Where are my manners? Welcome to the forums - didn't think I recognised your name. I'm sure you'll love it here, it's a great place to learn, and everyone here's always willing to help :)

Just been trying to remember about the KT7a - I built a system for a friend using one, but I only saw the bios once, so I can't remember too clearly. I think I may have been wrong about the jumper - I think it's all in bios. If it's the same as the Kt7 Softmenu III though, you'll need to set the cpu speed to 'User Define' rather than one of the presets. Then you should be able to select and change all of the options below like cpu multiplier, fsb speed, cpu+ bus speed etc. I think all you have to do then is set the fsb to 133, and the multiplier to 9 (I'm guessing the chip isn't unlocked yet, so any other mulitplier probably wouldn't boot or would boot at the same speed). Just have a good poke around the Softmenu III section of the bios, see what you can find - I'm sure the answer's there somewhere :)

In the BIOS under SOFT MENU III there is a setting that will show "100/33". You need to set this to "133/33". It's like the third item down from the top of the list.

Back from work finally, went into softmenu III changed setting to user define, changed from 100/33 to 133/33, set multiplier to x9, saved the settings and system wouldn't start up. cleared cmos and tried again with same results, is there a jumper on the motherboard?

I believe they are jumperless mb's. You may have to disable just about everything and try boot after boot to find your problem. Thats what I had to do, not fun but I finally found a stable state.

The only thing I can think of is try flashing the bios to a newer one. If that doesn't work check your cpu markings and make sure it has 1200 on it. And lastly take it back to where you bought it.

What was the seting before you set it to user define? doesnt this board have an auto-detect seting? Also do you have adequate cooling for your processor? I hope your not using a retail fan that came with your processor, becuase that just wont cut it.

Righto. Flash it and check your markings on the chip. Make sure it says 1200

If it wont boot make sure voltage is at 1.75 or max 1.80,,,,,133/33 is selected that is second choice on fsb selection,,,ALSO CLEAR CMOS with system unplugged from power supply,,,Disconnect cord from back of comp....I doubt you need a bios flash as Abit has no issue with a 1.2 processor,,The processor issues are 1.33 266 fsb i think !

Getting mine first started was a chore since then no worries at all. that is with a many different cpu speeds and such.
