what are your comments on changing the multiplier of an XP chip directly via the L1 bridges..
this should be the site: http://ocinside.de/index_e.html
i've tried it but it doesn't work. i did manage to get a .5 increase in my XP's multiplier changing it from 10-10.5 but that's all i got no matter what settings i choose.

sorry about the post, it was supposed to go with flounder's post on FAQ's for the K7S5A board.

WELLCOME TO THE FORUMS!

I have blown the 5th 3rd and 2nd L3 bridges to up the multiplier on my 1700+. Changed it to 14 instead of 11.

Are talking about joining the L1s to unlock your cpu?

What CPU do you have and what board?

i'm more concerned about whether my board works with the pin-mod modification. it's an ECS K7S5A. my cpu is a 1500+ o/cd to 1.5ghz at the moment at 150fsb. yes the connecting of the L1's is to try to unlock the CPU but since the board doesn't support changing the multiplier, i have no way of knowing if i unlocked it.

If you try to up the multiplier with a pin mod and it does not work....your unlocking of the L1's was not successful.

The wire mod will not work unless the CPU has the L1's unlocked, they must be closed for the wire mod to work.

I have a K7S5a also so I went through these same things.

i rechecked the ocinside site and found out that not all cpu's need to be unlocked before the pin-mod works. the pin-mod works with the barton and t-bred cpu's w/o unlocking but the older athlon xp needs to be unlocked first.
however, i'm sure i unlocked my cpu the first time. my stock mult. was 10. when i unlocked it and tried the pin-mod, i tried the mult. of 11 and 12, my pc wouldn't boot. but when i tried 10.5, 11.5 or 12.5, it booted up but showed a mult. of only 10.5 for all three settings. you think it was faulty unlocking??? is that even possible; to unclock a cpu half way???

Those bartons and tbreds that the pin mod works with are unlocked from the AMD, they all had the L3's closed. About a month ago AMD started locking their CPU’s again. It started around week 39. This time they are impossible to unlock, at least so far no one has figured out a way to do it. Ocinside is a little behind the times.

All Bartons and Tbreds before this were unlocked, however, you still needed to do a mod on the 5th L3 to use the lower or upper multipliers depending on which CPU you had. All palomino’s are locked and need to have the L1 closed.

You need to try again, Did you fill the pits before you joind them together? It looks like you got the bridge closed properly that determines .5 Some bridges have a light film that you have to scrape a little before you apply your defogger.

yup, filled the pits using super glue with the surroundings taped off. i think my problem is i'm still using the old pencil trick. it worked for the voltage hack of 1.85v so i'm hoping it'll work for the L1's. don't really have the will to look for other conductive alternatives :) hehehe. where do they sell defogger paint or silver conductive paint??

That’s probably it, the pencil doesn’t seem to work very reliably when you fill the pits.

You can find the rear window defogger repair kit at most auto repair shops.

As for silver conductive paint...I don't know.

Could anyone send me a link/guide how to unlock my chip so that I am able to change the multipliers. i did this before with the pencil trick but cant remember how to do it. I have a xp1800. My fsb goes to 152 then clocks out because of my memory(damn PC2100) so I want to up my multiplier.
DoM

When I do this what would a good starting oint me to shoot for? I am running stock voltage and multiplier, but have jacked the FSB to 137.35 right now for speed of 1374.55. I wanna go faster!
