I'm having some problems setting up my security settings in IE 5.5, and I'm hoping someone can help.

For "Internet Sites" I have security set to High. For "Trusted Sites," I have security set to no. I was trying to access a website for work, and it told my I had Java disabled, and the page needed Java enabled to work right. So I added the site to my trusted sites. But that didn't fix anything. So I removed it, then tried to add it back, and got a message that the site is already in another zone, and I have to remove it from there first. I checked through all the other zones, and it wasn't added to ANY of them.

My question is thus: how do I remove all the listings from my zones? This is my work PC, so I can't just format and reinstall. Any help? Anyone?

Have you tried removing all sites from the trusted and restricted and then resetting the default security to medium and then back to high. I had a machine that seemed to be locked up in a similar manner and it cleared.

Well, that didn't work. I removed all my trusted sites, and hit "default level" on all the sites. Then I changed them, and added back secure sites. When I tried to add that ONE site, I got the message that the site was already in another zone, and I had to remove it from that zone. Is there some button I can hit somewhere that removes every site from every zone?

The first site didn't show anything, and the second link really didn't have anything pertinent. I think I got the problem fixed by removing a key from the registry, but I seem to be having more of the same problems. I'll update when I have a bit more time.

Back to your first post....you do have Java enabled right?

Trusted sites-->Custom Level-->Microsoft VM-->Java permissions

make sure that's enabled!

And that's the confusing thing. I have java enabled, in fact, for my trusted sites, I have security set to low. And I've double checked the settings specifically. I can visit other java sites in my trusted zone with no problem. It's just this one. And it boggles my mind. Especially since one of my workmates here has it added just like I do, and he has no problems with it.

Okay, this is kinda baffling me. How about clearing your cache/cookies?

Cleared all my settings, cleared all my cookies, cleared all my temp files, removed all my zones, set everything back to default. And I was still getting the "already exists in another zone" error until I deleted the registry key. Added things back, and now that I have that site in my truested sites, it's still telling me that Java is disabled. Now, if I set my "Internet" settings to medium instead of high, there's no problem. So that site is acting like it's NOT in my trusted sites, even though it is indeed there.

Just an update, I have my security settings at home very similiar to those at work, and I can access the site from work no problem. Added it to my trusted sites, and away I went.

Something's got to be screwed up on my work computer. Problem is, how do I change it without formatting my computer at work? Because I can't format it.

And I'm running Win2K and IE 5.5 at work, and XP and IE 6.0 at home.

Well, I fixed it. Ran the setup program for IE5.5 from my hard drive (good thing I never deleted those Windows Update Files!) and it seems to have been all cleared up now. I'm a happy guy!
