the ipod shuffle charges from a USB port. i want to either construct or purchase a wall charger. if apple releases one, it will probably way too expensive.

does such a product exist already? (a wall charger with a female usb plug on the end) i was thinking if a powered hub would have the ability to charge without being connected to anything, but i would like something less bulky. if someone knows USB specs and can give me some pointers as the voltage / amperage required that would be great.

also, where is the best place for usb accesories? i would also like something like this
http://www.radioshack.com/product.a...y_name=CTLG_004_002_012_000&product_id=26-705
but i really only want a 90 degree angle (since i dont like the idea of having $150 mp3 player sticking out perpendicularly from the front or back of my computer, but i also dont want another cable

hmm, i think USB supplies 5v...so if you got a 120AC > 5VDC converter and wired it (properly) to a female usb plug, you might be able to make a makeshift charger

it'll only take the amount of current it needs i believe. Although i'm not positive on that.

:bang head
i really have to think these things through before i post. thanks

does anyone know the max current USB uses, since i know the battery wont pull more than that?

alright, im pretty sure USB spec is 5v at 500mA. does anyone know where i can get a wall adapter with these specs? im trying to find another product that requires an adapter with these same specs, since i think searching for that will be easier

sweet thanks, i was just looking at the battery pack, and i thought it would be useful to make one myself.

i dont have the shuffle yet. theres a shortage and im waiting till target has them so i can get a deal.

i've been ogling it for a while now, and i cant wait to get it.

after reading through the comments on that hack, i think this looks like a better and more reliable one:

theres even a kit

http://www.iguanalabs.com/7805kit.htm

edit: if theres any EEs looking here, any comments as to the pros/cons of the 2 methods would be appreciated. it seems like the diod/resistor method isnt that great and the LM7805 is much better
