Would it be possible to find a dongle that connects the SATA drive to the 360's connector and then just use a cheap hdd i buy online? I'd rather not spend the money on the hdd unless I have to, and I dont care if I have a ghetto hdd sitting on top of my box. I could also format the hdd using a ghost image found online (hopefully. I haven't looked for one yet)

I know for sure it is possible, 100%.

Check out xbox-scene.com for TONS of info, I am sure you will find out how to set that up on their site.

Just grab a $30 SATA ->USB Enclosure and that should work. I've been wrong before however, so try forconfirmation :)

That will work, but you cannot save LIVE content directly to it. You'd have to download it to a real 360 drive, then copy to the USB drive and go back and forth. That is ONLY for LIVE content though. If you housed all of your MP3s to the USB drive or put all of your game saves there or even movie files that are accessable by the 360 like WMAs and MPEGS then that would be fine too, just no LIVE content.
