How is easy is it to do that? Im always so scared when I put my HS on, so that I dont chip mine.

if your careful and set the heatsink down flat it's not very easy to chip the core but if it's even slightly angled the core will crumble like a cracker.

my XP1600 core looks just like yours dumpa, still runs great and doesn't appear to affect overclocking. lucky indeed :)

i had a bad heatsink once, and i have an 800 athlon thats chipped around all four edges and works fine, and a 1400 athlon that did work fine even worse for a while, one install too many of that fan though, the 1400 died and i killed the fan.

I was always very careful when installing HSFs.

I had an old copper shim but it's not TBred compatible.
I guess I have to be even more careful from now on....

My 1600+ ran 38c load with my new wc setup. Then my friend took my black rubber processor thingys, and CRACK!!!!. Took it off and every side had a LOT missing. It runs now, but, NOOOOO, 63C LOAD ON WATER.

i thoguth the heat spreaders kept people form unlocking thie chips (not that it really matters anymore. all bartons are unlocked right?)

Ya i cracked my 1600+ (rest in peace brotha) when i was istalling my zalman, i slipped and didnt notice i chipped away a lot of one of the black foam protector thingies and it cracked when i carried it back to my room :(

'Bump

I chipped my cpu and it was in the same place and it wasnt even bigger then that and it didnt boot , this tells me that it was the motherboard a7n8x. because of that i replaced both and got a 0301 in replace for my 0302 2400

I cracked my first two procs...750duron and 1400 tbird....I did not know how to put the heat sink on properly:eek: Actually the 1400 was pretty cracked and still worked(WORSE THAN YOURS) until one day the L1 cache would no longer work...worked on l2 but man she was super slow:cry:
Learned a lesson there....be careful w/ the heat sink..for all you new members-be careful putting the HS on-! If you do it right than there are no worries. 2nd lesson was to curb my insessant meddling..sometimes getting a extra degree cooler is not worth the $$$ you lose from a dead chip.

I haven't chipped a core yet, but i am always super careful when I put my heatsink on because I'm always so paranoid I will crush the core. I hope that never happens to me.

Good thing it boots though :D.
