There's not a native linux gpu folding client yet. Somebody has a work around using a wine wrapper for the windows gpu client. If you google folding gpu linux you'll find it.

He'll have to chime in on changes to the driver recommendations and whether Ubuntu 9.10 now works. My only Linux gpu is on 9.04 server and it works quite well. For cpu only (or in VMware) though, I've found the 2.6.31-14 and higher kernel found in 9.10 is fastest by a small margin.
