should i leave the cold plate on if i dont use a pelt? what if i put a bunch of arctic silver on the cold plate and bolt it down???
 
I don't think you should keep it on, it just increases the distance that the heat must travel from the cpu to the water.
 
no, don't do that, you just create two gaps to cover vs one. Cold plates are only used to even out the temp fluctuations on a pelt.
