Welp, I'm in ineed of a new computer chair. I've been self-employed for about six weeks now, and I'm beginning to realize that my display-model bargain leather computer chair from Staples isn't cut out to prop me up for full work days. I started getting a pain in my shoulder so severe that I had to stop working for a bit.

I'd like a decent-looking chair, but I'm not too picky on appearance. What I really need is something with height adjustment, tilt and tilt resistance adjustment, and most importantly, the armrests must have independent height adjustment. My current chair has fixed armrests, and they're contributing to my current bout of hurts-like-hell-itits.

Any suggestions? I'm willing to spend a fair amount, but ideally I'd like something under $250.

I use a leather massage chair,

not the crappy pc ones a proper chair what you'd have in a living room loung or wharever you call it :p

For the price you mention Office Max or Staples actually can have some good choices with everything you mentioned and you can test them out. I would go to Staples and try some on if I was needing a new rig.

Office Max or Staples, how tall are you though? If you are pretty tall like 6'2" or more you will end up spending $250+ then for a full fledge tall office chair.

Got you covered bro!

I'm 6'1", and I think I will need to get an office chair with a tall back. Those half-back chairs just don't cut it.

The real bummer is that I do a lot of cycling, and I need to have a nice, upright position in my computer chair, but the opposite on a bike. Now that I'm riding more because the weather's nice, it's exacerbating my crappy chair.

I just got off the phone with them.

Approx $4,000 USD for the cheapest work station.

Approx $8,500-$9,000 USD for the Most Elaborate Workstation.

I personally like the mesh chairs. Ones that have mesh seats and mesh back. I wanted to get one like what I have at work only down side is they where like $250+. I settled with a mesh back chair adjustable arm reasts, and a normal seat. I got mine from Office Depot for like $70 if not mistaken.

I uses to have a tall back chair, loved it for a bit but it wore really funny and felt like if I was leaning back my heat was being pushed way to far forward.

I did a lot of research and ended up with super comfortable Office Star Space series coffice chair. I actually tried many from other companies and returned them all before I ended up with this one.

I shopped around, if you see one you like, simply go to Froogle, type in Office Star and the model number you want and check for the lowest price, since the chairs are all drop shipped, it makes little difference who you buy it from as long as the vendor has a good resellerrating. Here's the Froogle results for the one I bought, it's gone up about $20 since I bought mine. I can tell you one thing, I'm rough on office chairs and Office Star chairs are built like tanks. If your on the fence about buying one, I'll take a pic of the rear of the chair and show you the heavy duty tubular backbone frame, the Office Star Space Series are very well made.

OfficeMax, Staples and all (online and brick and mortar) vendors drop ship the Office Star chairs that ship directly from Office Star. Office Star also has excellent customer service when you call them, but they do not sell direct.

I ended up getting this one becasue I do not like leather seats for an office chair for many reasons. I paid under $250 shipped. Its a nice chair but Office Star has a lot of nice office chairs that won't break your bank. While the one I bought has fixed arms, they have others that are adjustable and many other options depending on the model your looking at.. They are good chairs at good prices.

SSS, thanks. That seems to be what I'm looking for, and at a reasonable price. I particularly like the tall back and head/next support.

I probably just go ahead and order one. Anything has to be better than this chair.

I suggest going to a retail store and sitting in this or any chair you want to buy online, most all the big brick and mortar stores sell Office Star Space series chairs, they just don't stock them, they all ship from Office Star, hense the reason to order one online for at least a hundred dollar savings.

Office Star has many models, I particuarly like the Space series, I tried everything from herman miller chairs to everything in between. I ended up realizing that particular Office Star model 37006 was exactly what I wanted and I when I put it together, I was even more impressed due to the rugged frame, comfortabity factor and more. I made the right choiced. If you want the leather version of this chair, it's model 39006 selling for about $50 more, but I sat in both and I liked the non leather one better. The both are a good choice.

I'll even throw you a Cyber deal, here's a $19.99 viscoelastic foam Sharper Image Contour-Foam Back Support Pillow from Sharper Image's discount outlet, I paid a lot more for this, these make kick *** office chairs even more kick ***. You really don't need one with the chair I suggested, but it's a steal at $19.99. They are nice for your car as well. Shipping is $5.95

I always bring one of these when I travel overseas on long flights, I have a bad habit of leaving these on the plane, so I bought a couple more at this price. The cheapest I've ever seen these sold is Ebay for just under $50 shipped, so this is a really good deal.

Like it has been said, you probably want to go to a real (not online) store, at least first. Sitting in the chairs will eliminate a couple immediately, and make your selection much easier.

By the way, SSS, I use one of those foam rests when traveling too. :)

I bet you haven't lost as many as I have  This is why I'm always looking for Tempur-Pedic lumbar support deals..... These Visco-Elastic back-rests are so good, when I call the airline, they are never to be found. I've probably given one to every Delta cleanup crew employee :bang head

I used to sit for 16 hours a day in one of those really uncomfortable wooden kitchen chairs. By the end of the day I was in agony. Don't ask me why... I did this for like 6 months. Finally I got a decent chair from staples for like $200, and that worked out great. The one I have now is similar to that, but was actually under $100, and I have no problems with it.

It is cool to see I am not the only one who cannot live without good lumbar support. Even though my chair is big and kind of has good back support. It makes a comfy chair even better.

Once you do high back chairs. It is hard not to keep using them. I always buy executive chairs. My current chair has a big ol fluffy head rest on it. Like a pillow. It is so very much worth it finding a chair you will like.
