My dad just knew a guy who used to work with wood (carpender), he did too. I got mines free cuz somehow they would get some left over unwanted stuff that was still good, employee discount free or stolen. iuno.
I think the company is closed now.
Edit.(nvm it wasn't anything illegal, he just used some decent plans and made his own tables, made some spares and sold them. How hard can a few pieces of flat wood and screws be with the right tools and exp)
Mines just has a keyboard tray and a nice height for the monitor. some shelf space.
the tray looks like a big peice of wood with rails screwed into the side. I bet you could make one if you found some rails.
Dad's friend said something about how the table is sturdy enough to hold a cow or 2.
Craigslist.
I've found my last 4 computer desks from there. All good shape and for 100 bucks or less. Office stores will rape you hard for a DURABLE computer desk. Tricky part is having a van or truck to pick them up.
I wonder if that is what you meant. my table ain't falling apart and sometimes I drop hot solder on it for a few seconds.
you have to get one. its so comfortable having a keyboard tray. (I just like the keyboard slightly lower so it doesn't strain my arms and the monitor slightly higher so it doesn't strain my eyes.) oh yeah btw a computer desk's parts are pretty small you can fit them in the backseat of a normal car. you usually get them or at least i get them disasemmbled.
Here's an idea. I heard stephen colbert used to go to some furniture store with a sketch pad and copy down the dimensions of a futon frame. He'd go make a crappy one and sell it for $100. Maybe this will work and give you ideas for your table.

and for the finale I googled keyboard tray rails or something and got this
http://www.hardforum.com/archive/index.php/t-716750.html didn't read it all, just the part where he says you can get the rails at lowes. kind of like desk drawer rails I guess or clothes drawer rails, those would be kind of sturdy. Kind of feel like i'd be ripped off for nice rails.
