According to VR-Zone, prices are set to fall in Q2 of 2007.

So maybe I should hold out for a little bit

that could be 6 months away. if waiting 6 months is worth say ~$50 to you, then sure you can wait. ;)

$50 - $100.

I'd say if you want more power get it now, if you think your system will suit you well for a while still hold out til the price drops. Also take into consideration if you plan on parting out your system of how much a price drop that it could take itself during the same time period too. It could very well equal out if not come out lower.

If anything the one benifit to holding out would be motherboard prices probably.

With your opty, I don't see it being a huge deal holding out till the price drops come around. Maybe by then mb and ddr2 memory prices will fall as well.

Wow I didn't see that one. That is defiantly the chip I would get...

True true, but he E6420 is not looking too shabby as well:)

I wonder what discounts the employees will get through their lines...

I probably will get a Core 2 Duo next year after I get some cash back in.Spent the bank on Christmas gifts this year xD. Need some Ram too. My DS3 is asking for some tweakage.

well the real deal is the e4300 esp in q2@$113, the extra 2mbs on the 6320/6420 is not worth it. consider your maybe getting a 5% boost depending on the app.

and how can you be so sure? intel is another story speaking about cache. I'd take your comment granted if this was AMD, but it certainly reads unbased.

there are plenty of C2D benches around that show the diff between 2mb and 4mb of cache. the 4mb helps up to 10% i think in some instances, but usually around 2-8% in real world apps AFAIK.

$30 difference vs 10% gain aint cost effective comparing E6320 vs E4400 ... the former has better bang for the buck if they overclock the same.

Now correct me if i'm wrong, but both E6XX0 and E4X00 are conroes, so the E4X00 should overclock better if it turns out they have the "extra" 2MB disabled. Why? the disabled cache should provide a cool surface to discipate heat better. Or maybe I should wait and see hehehe

um... i think the e4x00 are allendales, and won't have the disabled 2mb cache, they will be the ones with native 2mb cache. the current e6400 and e6300's are conroes with native 4mb cache but only 2 enabled.

The E4x00's are the ones with native 2mb cores. They won't have the extra surface area to help cool the chip. The E63/64 00's have the 4mb with 2mb disabled have the bigger surface area to help cool if it helps that it (which it should). The E6320 and E6420's should run warmer then there little 2mb brothers just due to increased power consumption, unless the E63/64 is still being feed power and just data links where cut.

i wasn't talking bang for buck...you questioned whether the extra 2mb makes much of a difference...it can...UP TO 10%, and i think that's only in superpi.

if it were me, i would go with the 4mb chip, but it doesn't mean the 2mb chips won't be any good. actually i might still consider a e6600 for its multi and cache.

omg, now i had a really good beatin from y'all

guess its not good to be away from the oc scene...

well, now that de 4x00 are a different design i guess i should just wait and see

I don't see what the big deal is.. This is over 6 months away.. it only makes sense that prices will fall by then. AMD X2's should be like $99 right now but they are not... dam.
