Hey, just a rant against Cox internet.

I've always gotten maybe a third of their rate speed. Even a quarter now (got 1GB down, I rarely break 230mbps...)

Now since I moved maybe a year and a half ago, not only do I get the same terribad speeds, I get the same terribad outages. Used to think it was my apartment's wiring, but no.

Now, just recently, I'm stuck in a 5 hour maintenance window. And since I work 12-9, this is maybe my bedtime, where I'm in bed watching Netflix.

Bad Cox, no cookie.

Like seriously, this is why (I* would get a 5G home setup.

Because Cox does maintenance NOW.

I have had two, 2+ day outages in the last month with my service provider, including several multi hour outages in between.

While their customer support is terrible, fortunately they are small enough that an email to their CEO results in, at least, a decent conversation after the fact.

Cox, Comcast, Century Link, all of those folks in the US are cut from the same cloth. Profit, profit, profit, with marginal service and since the FCC is a cluster, chances are nothing will get better anytime soon.

I have used comcast since the 90's and over all I would give them 4.7 out of 5 stars our speed now 880Megs and up to 1.3Gigs.

I just got rid of Comcast today. I'm using T-Mobile home internet. I've been using it for the last few days to make sure it would work for me. It does. I had the 1.2 GBps plan and a cable modem that could output up to 2.5 GB. Even with my 2.5 GB infrastructure, I never got more than 900 MBps. Fast, to be sure. However, something was causing bad ping times.

With a cost of almost $200/mth, I wanted to save money. Go online and price new plans... fewer channels? Yes please. Slower speed? Also yes please. Comcast's response, More money. It cost me more money to downgrade. No thank you.

Switching cell phones from Ting to T-Mobile. This will make up for the loss of "Free" Xfinity hotspots. Our new plan has unlimited data. Switched Internet from Comcast to T-Mobile. Switched Comcast TV to Antenna (along with streaming that we already pay for).

So how has the internet change over gone? Very well actually. Multiple speed tests show that we get about 400 MBps. Can stream about 8-9 full 4k videos at the same time. Yep. Not bad. Ping times are also not bad. 30ms give or take. Longer if I test a wireless device.

I know T-Mobile and Verizon have home internet. Verizon was not available at my home. I don't know about ATT.

Cost? We will be saving about $1,600/yr by ditching Comcast TV and switching to T-Mobile for internet and cell phones.

TL;DR Consider switching away from cable providers. They've gotten too big for their own good.
