I am in the market for a new S939 A64 and I can get either a Manchester AMD64 X2 4600+ or an A64 FX-55 for about the same price via Newegg. Which should I go for?

Thanks all!

i would go for the dule core over the single core x55
hop this helps
if you thinkabout it haveing 2 cpu's is alwas better than 1

Why not go for AM2?? AMD is gonna faze out s939 soon and you will have no upgrade path. Unless you already have s939 parts like the mobo and DDR ram then just save up for AM2+/AM3

Yeah I have 939 parts already...so it's just a partial upgrade.

no sense in going AM2 as AMD's gonna release a new socket anyway, AM2 isnt getting anywhere in my opinion, i think AMD just released this so they could keep AMD people happy for a lil while longer!

Whats wrong with that?? ^ AM2+ and AM3 stuf is gonna work in AM2 baords anyways, just no HT3.0. But im still upgrading to a AM3 board when the time comes, but its not for at least another year.

It depends on what you use it for and how long you intend to have it. For a machine you use 80-100% for gaming, I would go for the FX-55 and overclock it. For pure speed in every application out today it will beat a 4600+. One note however, is that as new games come out that will use the resources a dual core provides, the balance will shift to the dual core CPU. So if you intend to have the computer for more than 8-9 months then go dual.

If you will be folding or doing a lot of multitasking then go for the dual core.
