Yeah, Stay away from Gigabyte Motherboards too......I have bought three in the past and had trouble with all of them! On the other hand, I buy MSI for all my client's computers (who don't overclock) and they have all been rock solid!

yeah id have to agree with that also, iv been having heaps of problems with this 8ik1100 from day one, faulty south bridge i suspect.

Good board for the money though if your not gonna oc it to far.

well i've got everything installed and so far so good. heh, at least the fan hasn't died yet :p . but i can understand about how it does indeed blow warm air on your components. i've been checkin out the plastic shroud and tho I've heard it's removable, I can't figure out how to take it off. temps are droppin tho, which is good. prolly the AS5 finally starting to kick in. hey, if anybody has any idea on how to take that shroud off, let me know.

no . . . some peeps have just had a few bad experiences with em. and that's really all it takes to spoil a company's reputation, heh.

I had one of the original Au Pro 360° coolers. It has been in service many a moon . It now has it's second home.
Yes it does blow air in the strangest spots in your case. Yes it is very loud vs. cooling returns. Yes 'she' is a "B" word to clean dust out of. Yes them lights are VERY bright. Yes it is a behemoth and heavy. Yes it is one of a kind design. Yes it skewed my ambient readings. Yes it did last a long time.
Was it meeting my OC needs...No
Was it easy to mod it.. No
Would I get another one... No
Would I use one agian for free..No
Did I like the overall design.. No
Was it well made.. iffy
Was the base perfect and flat.. No

If I was to give it a star rating. I would give it 2.5 stars, it did keep my CPU 15°C under a XP stock cooler.. for $50US.

fair is fair.. there's no way u can compare gigabyte to MSI.. despite wot u did face with gigabyte boards they deliver some nice high end boards, ive used 2 so far, and my current one is a HARD CORE board, excellent OCing, stable, high results.

and wot u said says it all, u buy MSI for those who dont overclock.. if i were u ill buy an intel board and save some cash, yet get better performance, to be fair i can call MSI a B class brand

all right i'm in total agreement this thing frickin bites. so . . . i'm gonna take this POS off and get myself an XP-90 in the next couple days(chances are the 120 probably won't fit). I'm getting 44 C idle and up to 46 C on load. which isn't totally bad but not at all what I was expecting. what should I get be getting on a 3.2 northwood anyway? on stock even?

Rumor has it that Gigabyte design was modeled from an alien cooler design that was dug up in Roswell from the Alien spaceship that crashed in July 1941.

Rumor also has it that the reason the alien spacecraft crashed was due to it's flux capacitor failed when the heatsink fan malfunctioned. :p

If your seeing that small of an increase on load, chances are that mounting might be a tad bad, or the sensors are just off.

Most people usually see around mid30s-mid 40s on load.

well I've already reseated it twice and that did nothing. how long does AS5 take on average to set in?

I think the sensors are off on this thing cuz I'm getting the same exact temps as I did with my 2.8, which had a Tt Volcano on it.

hell, if you like pretty blue lights, go with thermaltake... even Tt makes better coolers than gigabyte

Agreed. However, the new Thermaltake sonic tower seems more like Thermaltake is doing things Thermalright style. From the looks of it, it appears to probably be very functional and work well. It is also under 60 dollars.

A link to the OCF thread discussing it: http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=372061

Thermalright also makes some nice heatsinks too.

already ordered the xp-90. its comin with a panaflo medium speed fan. also getting some memory, too as soon as my damn bank accepts my check today(just got payed  )

Sorry to hear the rocket didnt work out, but im not gonna sit here and whinge i was right, its just a bad design,

Anyway the xp90 should deliver much better results.

gl with it

nah you were right, I was wrong. I was just in denial because right after I ordered it, I saw this post. It was just me trying to justify the purchase, that's all. this is a good HSF and all, but like you said it won't do it for OC'ing, so I'm gonna give it to a buddy of mine who's working on his new machine at the moment(he's a n00b, so no OC'ing for him). right now, I'm waiting for my bank to get my damn account straight so I can buy that Corsair XMS RAM that I've been wanting a real long time. kinda funny really, I have over 700 dollars in my account and my debit card is still getting declined, lol. :bang head local banks are such a pain in the ***, man.

UPDATE: Well I got my xp-90 in today. a couple of fins were bent a little bit but I bent them back and they look okay now. I was supposed to be using a Panaflo 92mm High Output fan but heatsinkfactory.com failed to send me a 3-pin panaflo tail :bang head . so now I'm stuck with some crappy 80mm Raidmax fan. I already emailed them and should get one before the weekend. good thing is I'm already noticing temperature drops, even with the sub-par fan. :attn: and my memory is being shipped as we speak so things are lookin up a bit for my rig. I'll give you guys an update when I finally get everything together.

i notice you have the ultra x connect 500W PSU dude, hows it going for you, like OC wise, stable voltages, tmps etc... im thinking of getting one cause im sick of having so many cables form two psu's even though they r all hidden behind MB plate id like to get rid of them.

Well considering all the hardware I have hooked up to it I've got some pretty stable voltages and I've NEVER had any lockups or issues that were PSU related. as far as OC'ing I haven't ventured into that yet as I have terrible airflow at the moment. its not that I have bad cable management, its just my two intake fans are not blowing enough air. my raptors and caviar are absorbing all the cool air which is making the temps way too high too even try OCing at the moment. Just to give you an example of how bad it is, my window fan was blowing out for a good while but after realizing the lack of airflow I was getting I reversed it and my vid card temps dropped 10 degrees right on the spot. as soon as I get my 80mm Panaflos(which will be sometime next week . . gotta wait till I get paid, argh) and fan controller I'm gonna do some experimenting and see what kind of OC's I can get. this Soyo board I have is notorious for getting some pretty crazy high overclocks but I'll have to wait and see.
