HY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today i took the side cover of my case off an saw that the CPU and ambient temps droped dramaticly. So i decided to OC my CPU a bit. I have an AMD T-Bird 1200. The idle temperatures are about 25C CPU and 23 CASE. I OC it from 1200 to 1380. Here is where the problems start. At 1380 i get randoom freezes. The multiplier is 12 the FSB is 115. What to do??? The temps don`t get higher then 43 on load. I have an TT Vulcano 5 on the CPU.

Your fsb is too high and something cant handle it ,is your chip unlocked?

it could be anything ,if you have a network card then they are the most sensitive usually. Here just to give you an idea @115 fsb

PCI 38-39 (33)
AGP 76-77 X agp speed (66)

So what do u suggest to do???????????????????

I would unlock it if it was me ;)

Unless you have a really good stepping ,if so up your fsb to 133 and you will be at 1600mhz nearly, what chipset is your board?

KT7A has the KT133A chipset. You should definitely unlock your T-bird. Then try overclocking mostly by fsb. I bet your lockups are a sign you need to boost the voltage, but once you can change the muiltiplier, start out at 9.5x133, thenm see how high you can get the fsb. You'll probably hit a point where your cooling is the limit, after you've maxed out the voltage setting in the soft menu.

Unless you have a really good stepping...
What is stepping?????

How muh should i boost the voltage???? At what speed should i boost it????

I need to know an easy and clean way to unlock my CPU!!!!!!

As I understand it, the stepping is basically the batch # of your CPU. Some are better than others for overclocking. There is a code on your CPU, it tells you the stepping. There are great articles about this and unlocking in the beginners guides on the front page.
As for the voltage, I run mine up as high as high as I can at default, then when I start to get lockups/BSOD's I'll bump it up. I'm running mine at 137x10.5 at 1.75 core. I have some better cooling gear on the way, I'll probably be bumping everything up soon. That's why I say you'll probably run into the limit of your cooling before you hit the limit of your CPU. Increased voltage helps for a stable overclock, but it also increases your temps.

Hey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If my CPU is locked can i then decrese the multiplier factor????
Where can i see the batch?????????Is there any software that tells u wath bath u got????

unlocking a tbird or duron is fairly eazy. all u have to do is play a miniture game of connect the dots lol ok when u look at ur cpu look for L1 and there will be dots like :::: next to it u want to make that :::: into |||| useing a number 2 pencil :) if u have any questions about that just ask.... maybe someone else could explain it better but maybe that will at least give u the idea

Ok i get it. I know what u mean but is the thingy with pencils permanent????

BTW: is the CPU unlocked if u can decrease the multiplier???

yeah if u can change the multiplier at all it is unlocked

well if its locked u wont be able to change the multiplier so if u can change the multiplier its not locked there isnt any such thing as being locked but being able to change it :)

When i go to BIOS there are several multiplier to choose. I have set the multiplier to 9x and the FSB to 133. But when i rebooted my PC the screen was blank. But when i turned m computer on today at morning the PC booted normally the multiplier but i think that the FSB was lover. I then went to BIOS and set the defoult speed.

What was that. I thought i burned my CPU!!!!!!! It scared me to death.

Drop that multiplier some more :D ,I thought most 1200's were unlocked(everyone I have ever had was) .you maybe can try uping your voltage to get a few more mhz and to add stability.Be sure to watch your TEMPS
