I've recently downloaded demo versions of windowblinds and cursorXp, and all those little desktop app's. Well now all of a sudden im getting strange CPU usage. I've noticed my computer getting really really slow. I have a 2.8 @ 3.2 right now in my rig and I've checked the windows task manager and when it gets really slow and laggy it shows Explorer is running about 90-100% of my cpu. Could this be because of what I dl'ed or is there a possible chance of having a virus of some sort?

At times when Im on the internet, (AOL)-*aohell* .... it just decides to do it. My computer will drag and go so slow. My cpu is at 3.2 right now and it takes up 90-100% of the usage out of no where.

maybe you have other programs running..or maybe its scanning for CDs or something.

Well, nothing else is using up my cpu. Explorer.exe is using up from 90-100% of it. lol. Like right after I downloaded all of the desktop theme skin changer junk, it started acting up. Why would a system scanning for a cd in the tray use up all the cpu power?

don't know..but when I hear the CDroms spin up my system lags.

msconfig.exe make sure there are no startup files, and that your WinBlinds arn't running. Then try it out. See if it does it still or not.

Mine never spin unless I opened my computer or i actually open the drive. But I still don't get why or what would be causing Explorer.exe to use all of the cpu power

Whoa whoa, I don't think that was it. I looked at my networking connections, and there is one listed. I have nothing that concerns a network in my house. It's name is WAN(PPP/SLIP... it's state is connected. I'm running no wireless hardware. I don't know where this came from. My guess is, that could be it? Or would that just be my connection to the internet?

try turning it off then see if the problem still exsists. I don't have that under my networking section, but I do have the name of my internet connection.

Well, there was 2 of the same one listed also. Going at diffrent speeds sometimes. When I close explorer.exe the problem just seems to go away. But eh, I think I'm about to format my HD anyways. I need to get rid of a lot of junk. Make backups of a a lot of stuff and finally start with my case project.

I don't really know..I wish someone else was replying in this thread...

Mine has started doing the same thing. I've read another thread that said to try and disable indexing. You do this by clicking on the file or folder(s)>>>properties>>>>advanced>>>>>and uncheck\disable indexing(...for faster searching). That seems to have worked for me, but now indexing seems to be turning itself on occasionally but it could just be because I have an external HD that I've been using, and when accessing that is when it normally goes nutts for me.

When I had AOL I had a connection appear like that. Sign off AOL and see if it either dissappears or says "disconnected". Also do you have Compuserve installed because when that was installed I had anoher connection listed.
