i've tried installing sblive drivers without liveware but still same prob

anyone know the prob?

Does your mobo use a via chipset? Because apparently they have 'difficulties' with the live....
Although.. it could be something different too, does the noise also happen when the hdd does lots of accessing?
If so, try to disable the cd-audio in your sound settings<works only if the cd drive is connected with an analoge connector, try getting a digital one instead, that seems to get rid of that backround noise aswell...
Also, check the newsgroup at soundblaster.com, lotsa info on the live! cards is found here, and i have seen this same statement before over there.,
