Ok, This is my first post on this board.. anyway here's the prob..
I recently upgraded from a Celeron2 566@708 with a BH6 mb to a Duron 800@954 with a MSI K7t Pro 2-A... And now my harddrives are running alot slower... for some strange reason.. I mean my harddrives aren't that great (a 4 gig and a 10 gig Maxtor 5400 rpm Udma33) but still... something doesn't seem right.
Sisoft Sandra results:

Duron:
4gig: 2422
10gig: 2435

Celery:
4gig: 6398
10gig: 6463

Anyone have any ideas?.. tried the latest 4in1 Via drivers too.. no help.. or could Sisoft Sandra just be full of crap maybe? (it killed my 40x cd-rom so i'm starting to wonder...)

When you install the drivers, one of the screens asks if you want DMA and you have to check the box to have the drivers set up the support.

You could also go to Control Pane>System>Device Man. and click on the Hard disk Controller. Double click the VIA BUSMASTER bit, and check the date of the drivers. If it 5/11/98 or the vendor is Micro$oft, then they haven't taken properly. Go to the page with the Update Driver button down the bottom, and update the driver from your source media (i.e where the VIA drivers are) Do the same for Primary and Secondary Channels.

(14 days and 3 reformats later..)
I finally got it working right.. even though my harddrives are UDMA 33 drives.. I had to disable UDMA in the bios.. so now they're running in PIO mode 4 (i think..)
Sandra scores are now:
4gig: 10773
10gig: 7564

Weird..
