Well as I always do I fold 24 hours all the time. I was told that there is a new invida driver and I downloaded it and BAM the F@H was getting :poop: for PPD and there was an error with the new driver so I had to reinstall windows 10. I am so pissed off about what happened. Are there anyone else that had that happen to them. Now that is all fixed my WU'S PPD wise are where they should be. Thank God.

Nope. I'd bet money says the problem was in the order of operations tho.......

If you're going to install a new GPU driver, you shouldn't be folding or even paused. You finish all WUs so the card(s) are idle, then install the driver. Reboot, start F@H client and start folding again. To reinstall Windows 10 was............curious. Though easy, I'd imagine you didn't need to do that.

As you are folding, you shouldn't worry about new drivers very often at all. I doubt these guys touch their GPU drivers more than once or twice a year (if that)... if only for stability reasons.

Yeah... I'd bet a reboot and maybe flushing those WUs to start fresh would've done it without an OS reinstall. But Oh well, you're up and running again!

Next time something happens, maybe reach out to your favorite forum for advice... it could spare you quite a bit of time, effort, and anxiety. ;)

Both my Linux machines crashed simultaneously two days ago. No idea why. So I also have zero ppd until Sunday when I get back home. I will investigate a bit before I reinstall the OS. 😜

So I restarted both my PCs and they immediately started folding again successfully. However the PPD output is definitely incorrect. Folding with a 4090 and a 4080 in Linux and producing a measly 2mill a day. Any suggestions? All passkeys are correct. IMG_6929.png IMG_6930.png IMG_6931.png

@DeputyKovacs Looks like you are only receiving base credit for your work units. (no passkey or passkey not qualified for bonus.) If the "outage" caused a bunch of wu to fail, the passkey could have fallen below the 80% success rate and no longer qualify for bonus. Possibly the old logs would show some additional info about wu completed/failed. If there were lots of failures, will take a lot of good wu to qualify again, and would be best to get new passkey. Will only need to complete 10 wu and maintain 80% success rate on the new passkey.

Also @Flamethrower1972 , when GPU drivers make your machine do wonky things, DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) is a great tool. Completely removes all drivers and related files/folders/reg entries and lets you install from scratch. This could save you a ton of heart ache in the future. I'd download it now and have it ready for the unexpected driver issue.

Thanks very much @HayesK. I have obtained a new passkey key so let’s see what happens once I’ve returned 10 WUs. What you describe is most likely the problem. Both my rigs were dropping a unit a minute for two days. 😱

@DeputyKovacs 2days x 24h/d x 60m/h x2 gpu would be 5,760 failed wu. To reach 80% good would require 5760/0.2 = 28800 total, less the 5,676 previously completed OK, less the 5,760 estimated failed => 17,364 additional wu completed without any failures to re-qualify the old passkey. Lot easier to qualify a new passkey.

The FAH client normally pauses the slot for 24 hours after 10 failed wu, then resumes folding, unless the slot is manually paused to reset the counter or host is rebooted, which also resets the counter.

@HayesK thanks for that. It was a strange situation, I didn’t screen shot the logs, but the work unit was being downloaded, fah would attempt to start the CUDA platform, fail, then return the WU to the server with the message “Bad Work Unit.” This just went on non stop. I have seen the behaviour where each successive attempt at folding is delayed but that never occurred in this case. Anyway, thanks to a new passkey I’m now back in the game. Gotta keep them damn monkey at bay at little longer…. IMG_6934.jpeg

Thank you for the tip.(y)

On the driver issue, when I install new drivers, I exit the client and control then check the box in the driver install to do clean install.
