one thing that is beginning to annoy me is the fact that my computer, as of a week and a half ago, crashes on me consistemtly whenever I play CS, whether it be 5 minutes in or 30 it should NOT happen.

I'm running an oldish ATI card, but it has played hours of CS before without crashing. And i've got the ATI overflow fix.
It also seems to be afecting my UT and my Diablo II.

when it crashes it freezes my screen on the image, and then replays the same bit of sound on a loop until I hit reset.

I tried switching to Glide from direct3d but hen that craahed it just went black.

I've tried installing various versions of Dirext x including the one that came with my mobo.

I've also run scandisks, thorough and standard, as well as defrags on my drives. did I mention the full virus scan?

Gah, I hurt

help me...... please

oops, nope not that, I thought it might be that too, so I backed it down, and if a Duron 900 is unstable at 9*100 then I'm one screwed little bugger.

any other ideas?

u try reinstalling the game itself??

check for IRQ conflicts...

does 3dmark2k1 crash when u run it for a few loops?

what's your OS?

let's answer those

yep tried reinstalling CS, gonna try reinstalling Half-life and then CS,
how should I be checking for IRQ conflicts?
I'll run 3d mark and let you know
I'm running win 98 se

as for heat, I don't think it's that bad if I'm running at 39-40 celsius, and there isn't that much dust on my orb, I''ve got filters in case intakes, but I'll check an see how bad the dust is on the heatsink on the graphics card. I need to put a fan on that sucker though.

if it's a coding problem I don't kno how to fix it.

if it's coding there's nothing u can do....

use device manager for IRQ stuff...

and run 3dmark couple loops, that should be a good indicator

well, I've jut run 3dmark2001 for 15loops and it ran fine.
I'll check device manager, see if that does it.
I've also cobbled together a fan to put on the GPU heatsink.
Anyone other than me think it's just plain stupid that the GPU is on the underside of the card when not only does heat RISE, but it also takes up your first pci slot if you want to put ANY kind of cooling on it?

It's just plain STUPID.

so IU've got a fan, now I just need to figure out how to mount it.

if 3dmark runs fine, then it might not be a hardware problem...

3dmark is real instensive, usually more so than games throw at it

strange isn't it,
I haven't managed to check for IRQ conflicts yet. all in all I've got my graphics card, network card, onboard sound, and usb ports plugged directly into the mobo. do I sound prone to IRQ conflicts?

and now I have the fan on the GPU heatsink. see how that goes, too me little bit to figure out ho to mount the sucker, cuz I had no bolts and it was slightly larger than the heatsink. but I managed.

my computer works in strange ways.

have u tried runnign it in software mode?

cuz if it doesn't crash then it means it's your vidcard, if it does crash, that means it's something else

define software mode?

just reinstalled half-life and cs

Open Halflife, Go into 'Configuration" ->Video Modes, choose software opposed to OpenGl/DirectX

I've had similar problems sounds like driver or maybe openGL to me.

I bet a new video card would solve the problem immediately, if you can spare a few bucks.

I've not been having problems since I reinstalled the games, or at least I haven't played long enough for it to crash, eventually I will get a better vid card though
