Has anyone cut their ide cables into strips, to increase airflow? If so, how did you do it?

I believe your are referring to "rounding cables"... :)

You can use a sharp razor to cut some small holes in between the wires, and use your finger to seperate them all the way. Be sure not to expose any of the wiring! :)

You don't have to seperate them all from each other, 8 and 8 wires together seems ok, and you can stack them on top of each other, and wrap them with some tape in a couple of places. A small operation that will increase air flow in the case, if you have some additional fans.

Do the same for the ATA100 cable?
Thanks,
Rob

I have found that cutting every 4th cable works well with an X-Acto knife or similar. For ATA/100 cables , be very careful, if you happen to expose some wire cover it with electical tape. I have done four friends and my own this way,

Thanks guys, im going to try it this weekend, and then cover it will conduit, or lay them on top of each other and tape them flat.

I did mine last night.. Ive got three CD roms + the HD and the floppy, so it really helped clean up the case. For now I just used electrical tape to cover the wires, but ill probably try to find some type of cover to make them look better.
I have no problems with my ATA 66/100 cable, in fact it came apart easier than the other two.

Another method that works well without risking damage is to fold the cables into a "\/\/" pattern and then tape , ty-rap or wrap in conduit.

I did this with mine months ago, after reading a post on this by surlyjoe.

Works well, and I can access everything easily.

I was leery of slipping w/ the x-acto knife and wasting a cable.

i dont know if this stuff is any good but its pretty cheap and it would look decent.

i suggest plain black....but unless you have a window it really dosent matter does it?

Thanks for the link to the conduit in all colors. I see the price, but it did not say how long the sections are.

If you want that stuff try the auto parts store they have that stuff and you don't have to pay shipping.
Also you shouldn't cover the entire thing in tape, you want to leave some flexibility, do it 3 or 4 times, at the ends and the middle. I did it and it works perfect.
