DDR motherboards are getting popular nowadays but they are still more expensive! Would getting a motherboard like the ASUS A7A266 be the perfect solution since both DDR ram and SD ram could be used together!

What is the down side of having a board like this apart from teh fact that it is expensive compared to most boards at present?

The a7a266 is a good motherboard but you can not use sdram and ddr at the same time. It's one of the other. If you buy ddr ram, make sure you put it in the slots for ddr or you will fry your ram because sdram uses a higher voltage.

I personally don't see much of a price difference between PC133 and PC2100 DDR memory or motherboards unless you are talking about
512 meg sticks of DDR which are about 195.00 for Micron on Pricewatch
the 256 meg sticks are dirt cheap and from what I have heard the performance gain is well worth the small difference in price...I would and am going with DDR on my first box

There's not really any difference in price AFAIK between DDR and SDR mobos when you look at the higher-end overclocking ones. The DDR boards (example IWILL KA-266R at £139) are maybe £5 more expensive than a SDR board with comparable features (example IWILL KK266-R at £134, and DDR RAM is exactly the same price as SDR RAM, at least for DIMMs less than 512MB (as Hookem mentioned). Seeing as there's really no price incentive to go with SDRAM now, I'd get DDR if you're going to be buying a mobo and ram anyway. That's what I'll be doing soon if I can get the cash together :)

the prices were pretty bad, but they are great now. No reason to not get a DDR mobo anymore.

I agree really no reason not to go DDR anymore....i was debating DDR vs SDRAM, but over the last couple weeks I've settled on DDR..now it's the debate of WHICH ddr motherboard...abit's kg7 is still so new it's $$$ expensive where as the epox (k7a) can't remember the id now...its the one with 2 DDR dimms is just $10-$15 more than an abit kt7a sdram board. Ram is almost the same prices unless getting the 2400 ddr or stick larger than 256mb.

Sell the old SDRAM and EDO. You will always find someone looking for the old stuff to upgrade an old PC or something.

Yeah like Len sezzz....matter of fact I'm looking for two 32meg sticks of EDO
for a Packard Hell errrr.... I mean Bell....

If I get a ddr mobo then that mean I have 2 sticks of Sdram siting around my house and 2 sticks of Edo ram from my older computer.....

You wouldn't be able to use that edo ram anyways.....

Who has the best prces on Epox ddr boards?

I would definately not get an A7A266, as the problems I have had with my two boards.
I was just informed by my supplier that they have taken back a slew of them, and will not be offering them any longer.
Verify it for yourself if you want.

I think until we see what the Asus A7V266 can do Asus is overpriced junk ive bought 5 Asus boards so far and 3 out of the 5 the 3 were defective and the only one that i had running good was the A7V133a and that thing still was unstable at certain times with my Duron 700 OCed at 840 now im getting more out of my Duron running rock stable @ 871 with this new MoBo i will not buy Asus anymore.
